I did always find it odd that Bulbasaur was blue.

I think this is cool, and that what we've thought was a very light, water-color style is actually super-washed-out scans by Nintendo of America. Still, original tweeter is acting like he discovered evidence that the Moon Landing was faked, when in reality NoA just probably had sub-par QC in the 90's(most Nintendo Power guides have at least a few errors). There seems to be a lot of heated debate on both sides of this "issue"(Artist's original intent VS art erasure?), but I think the Fire Red/Leaf Green artwork generally reflects what 'mon's palettes should probably look like.

Venusaur is a pokemon I still have very mixed feelings about.

Lewtwo pretty clearly outlined what the problem was in great detail, you might want to read about it instead of coming up with a weird tangent in your head.

I read the long-winded tweet, thanks! It's still just washed-out colors, bro.

I suppose there's something to be said about being nostalgic for low-quality, or lo-fi as the kids are calling it these days. Some game manuals had terrible scan and color quality back in the day. Still, I do like the proper art a lot more.

It's wild how upset some people apparently are about this, but also it's weird how these are just appearing now. Sure, it was a Japan-only book, but there are a lot of very devoted Pokémon fans throughout the world. You can say that "it was a different time" when this book came out, but Kinokuniya had already been in the States for decades by the time this book came out, and they could have had it, considering they sell things far more obscure than Pokémon.

People will like objectively worse things just because it's what they grew up with. People get upset when a manga or anime gets released uncut without altered edits or music changes. This "new" art is replacing their childhood in their mind.
