I'm the survey maintainer. If you've experienced a problem getting to the survey (that's been a problem in the past, should be fixed, but. you never know...), or if some feature is screwing up (e.g. links not working, checkboxes resetting), please let me know here or by email.
Oh, for those of you who don't normally fill in the comment boxes at the end of each section and are willing to take a chance, could you give the "Save progress" feature a test, especially those of you who would rather do the questionnaire a little bit at a time (make sure cookies are setable)? The only things that are saved are the checkboxes and the "Other/Specify" boxes (hence my request for testers who don't use the comment boxes). I've tested the things, had others test them, but the real test is with you folks. Thanks. If they work ok, next year I'll feel a little more confident suggesting that the survey can be done over multiple sessions.

Does the industry ever cite this information?

No one from industry has ever contacted me about the survey results. Neither have I pursued matters with them (I might have tried once, a long time ago). I haven't been monitoring the Forums for comments from them, either, so I'm not sure from that perspective, either. I'd like to think that industry personnel monitor ANN and AoD, and would notice the survey, and silently base decisions on some survey results. But I have no actual expectations on the matter.

I see a usask.ca in your email address! I didn't graduate from the U of S (did SIAST in another city), but I'm here in the city working now. Have you heard about Amazing Stories stopping anime rentals because of people just downloading fansubs? *sighs* Now that I live here I had a huge list of series to rent and now I'm screwed.
Anyway, to make this somewhat relevant, I'm intrigued and will be sure to take the questionnaire when I have an hour to spare!

It really did take me one hour to complete the survey, and I enjoyed it.

I do rent stuff, but when I have money and something OOP that I might want I don't want to risk the time it takes to rent it incase the affordable legit copies disappear. So fansubs for a small number of eps to make a decision. If I can't get it right away (not enough money or no/no legit copies) I would like to rent instead.

I used to do the same with rentals. But these days, there's so much
1) I know I want based on what trusted folks tell me, or 2) I've been able to
buy the odd title that caught my interest, that I haven't rented in a LONG
time. I have never downloaded a fansub for much the same reason. I
am having a difficult time keeping up. It was nice having a shop in town
that had a large rental catalog as a backup, but I've realized with that
passing that I'm long past needing it.
It's too bad that catalog is gone now, because fans who are just getting
into anime just lost a valuable resource. I can't blame the owner, though,
(I know him) he has a business to run and that shelf space could be better
used for products that move better. Whether the product he has put in will
sell better is a totally different question, and one I have no clue other than
"if I collected figures and models, I'd be in heaven and dead broke".
If distributers like ADV put more of their first eps on pay per download,
and if I felt compelled to view-before-buy, I'd seriously consider that
at rental pricing. My question, hence the similar questions on the survey,
is how many fans are of like mind, or who demand their anime samplers
for free and at high resolution.

Some folks have told me that it took 20-25 minutes, but BY FAR the majority
have told me 45 min to an hour, and the figure "one hour" pops up a lot.
I know it takes me an hour, but that might simply be out of sheer tedium
because every time I set up for this survey, by the time I announce it,
I've done a dozen trial runs. You can imagine what that can do to a
mind.
Regardless of my state of mind, I'm glad you folks enjoyed it. I hope
you'll be masochistic enough to do it again next year.

You know, for the pay to download thing, I would only agree to it if the following were there:
1970's-80's anime (Mastumoto mostly)
Kinnikuman
That's it. I am not really that interested in any of the new stuff that comes out nowadays (besides, the old series had better art...IMO...)
