Addendum: the slogan at lower right corner said "Shujinkō wa Kimi-tachi nanda!! (主人公は君達なんだ!!)", roughly translated as "YOU are the Master!!"

Yeah, that middle-age man really looks like a 15-16 year old boy with froofy hair.

Shujinko I would say is translated as "main character" -- as in the main character in a story, e.g. Amuro in Gundam.

Well, of course I knew the meaning of the phrase, but I thought it would be rather odd to say "you are the main character."

The concept of shujinkō in Japanese and "leading/main character" are not exactly interchangeable; "hero" (story-wise) is closer but would cause more misunderstandings...how about "you da man?" Mr. Green

A cultural note for anyone who's interested...

You may have noticed the small, yellow creature with wings on the upper left corner of the flyer. That's Meisui-kun, the official elections promotion mascot in Japan.

You have to wonder just who decided that the best character to represent a democratic election is... a giant yellow cat-creature with wings that has "election" written on its tummy.
