I enjoyed watching this series, but once I was finished with it I thought, "meh." Not sure why. Probably because of the lame ending.

I'll give the second season a try though. Hopefully they'll do a better job with the animation.

Wow, July? That's much sooner than I expected. At least now I don't have very long to wait. I loved the first series.

Uh, what do you mean? Those latter 2 arcs are the rest of the original story, the final 2 answer arcs that explain nearly everything that was left unfinished in the first season.

I'm not sure what part of the story should be referred to as the "original" story.

I think, as said above, only one arc is original, not the whole season. At least that's what people are saying after some interview/message with Ryuukishi07 was posted on another site.

At any rate, July is gonna rock!

The original Higurashi games for the PC span eight chapters, with four "question arcs" (chapters that raise questions) and four "answer arcs" (chapters that provide answers). The first season of the anime covered the four question arcs and two of the answer arcs; this new season is supposedly going to cover the remaining two answer arcs as well as include an original new chapter for the purpose of "help[ing] viewers remember what happened in the first season and help[ing] new viewers catch up" (http://zepy.momotato.com/2007/04/26/higurashi-no-naku-koro-ni-2nd-season/). This new chapter being developed is the original story referred to in ANN's article.

Okay, this doesn't make any sense, the final PC answer arc isn't the official end of the series, the PS2 arcs, one question, one answer and one final, that is the official canonical end of the series, the fourth PC answer arc is just the "Good Ending" to the series, that's why it has its own seperate continuity as established when SaiKoroshi-hen was created. And you can't possibly spend 24 episodes doing two arcs and a recap. Something is fishy as can be.

The answers will be there, as stated above.

I'm just hoping they'll have more than just three arcs. Of course, that'd mean that Minagoroshi and Matsuribayashi won't get the bum adaptation job that Tatarigoroshi and Meakashi got. Seriously, what were the production staff thinking?! Cutting out monologues left and right, all of which were the only way of finding out Keiichi's and Shion's (respectively) motives for their actions. It was the one bad thing about the series in general. At least Onikakushi, Himatsubushi and Tsumihoroboshi got good adaptations. Watanagashi's was 'meh' for omitting certain details and not being creepy enough at the end.

I'm hoping for the PS2 final arc to be animated, as well as the other ones as well. The alternate question arc in the PS2 could easily be exchanged for the new one (which coincidentally, explains the unknown character on the homepage), but I really want to see the "most evil scenario". I also would rather the PS2 final arc be animated in place of Matsuribayashi so the game translators have motivation to continue (I actually bought the game to use it).

This reminds me, I REALLY need to get around to buying the PS2 game already. I've been trying to improve on my comprehension skills for that very reason.

Oooh boy, July cannot come fast enough.

According to wikipedia, There are another 2 arcs to be finished in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai, and another season after that.

(Spoiler warning, Wikipedia gives a basic rundown of waht happens in said arcs!)
