The katakana for Michela's name are ミシェーラ so Chela is "Shell-a", not Kayla.

I believe the Kayla is for the Italian pronunciation of Chela, as said on the article. Very Happy

Thank you! That's interesting, and somehow even less intuitive.

She's not Ytallian! She's from an old Yelgand family.

Oh! I was referring to this on the article Anime hyper:
Quote:
Chela's (pronounced the Italian way, “Kayla,” since it's short for Michela) explanation of this does smack of infodump, if only in that it doesn't feel like natural dialogue...

Sorry if I mixed it up for you Sad

Regardless, the name "Michela" in English is usually pronounced "Mi-kayla;" which is Italian; "Mishella" isn't really a name we tend to see. (I've never seen it, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't exist Smile .) That's why I assumed the usual Italian pronunciation for the name and clarified that "Chela" wouldn't be "Chell-a" but "Kayla" given the full name.

So neither here nor there, really, but that's what, I think, both SenpaiDuckie and I were getting at!

I definitely get where you're coming from, but as the current translator for the series, I felt it was better to have people pronouncing her name the way the author intended.

Honestly, I think without knowing the Italian name, a native English speaker would naturally assume it was a variant of Michelle, but I also always knew how it was meant to be read.

Oh, I completely agree with you! I'd much rather be saying it the way the author intended; I was explaining how I got confused in the first place. I wasn't being sarcastic when I thanked you before. Smile That's the kind of detail I love knowing from translators because it makes my own reading better.
