Urgh, this guy really doesn't know how to stop. This manga had its moments but the last few arcs were just awful.

That's what happens when you attempt to write a story more complicated than your ability can handle.

7DS had a ton of interwoven plot threads: The backstories of all the main characters, the backstories of most of the major villains, basically everything relating to Arthur, etc. etc. That's a lot to tie together and the author just wasn't able to get them to wrap up in an orderly fashion. At that point his options were:

A) Just leave the less important threads hanging (either treated as as a blatant setup for a sequel or just anger the fanbase)

B) Cut the threads short (resulting in a badly rushed ending)

C) Just resolve the plot threads anyway in the best order he can manage (this is what we ended up with).

All three of those options are bad, but which is the least awful is debatable.

Usually whenever a mangaka finishes a long running manga the next series they create ends up being completely different from their last one. Mostly because they want to avoid feeling like their just doing the same thing over again. So it's interesting that Suzuki decided to go the sequel route.

1st naruto got a sequel when it had a closed ending
bleach gets a sequel in future after it had a closed ending.
now 7DS gets one after it had a closed ending?

ffs....how about make new works and don't piggy back off your success story by dragging it down (rarely does a sequel that had a closed ending do well)

You are not very familiar with Manga or anime are you? Most successful creators typically end up bombing on follow ups and often the fan base laments why they couldn't stick with the main work. Even those who are successful like Takahashi togashi don't exactly create works that are that significantly different . Both mao and rinne
Just feel like mash ups of what came before .

You are honestly best served beating that one dead horse as long as possible imo.

Well this is probably gonna suck. The original went so far down hill that I couldn’t even stomach it as brain dead entertainment at the end

Your story doesn't necessarily need an open ending to trigger a sequel. Also a writer making a new work that's as successful as one of the preceding works is easier said than done.
