If it is shown in Ann Arbor, then I think that we can safely infer the reason why.....

Of course, one can always hope that it is shown in Royal Oak, (hey, I grew up there, after all) but in addition to being the flagship campus of the University of Michigan -- and its attendant students -- Ann Arbor also hosts a big film festival every year. That is the reason that my guess is Ann Arbor.

Article: The movie is currently scheduled to screen in New York, California, Texas, Massachusetts, Indiana, Michigan and Oregon. A full list of theatres can be found at the FUNimation Films website.
...
Oh but they don't show it on the website. Hmmm.
you're right though, probably anime arbor. I forgot they were a pretty big anime friendly city.
They showed FMA there? Or was it Novi? Or was it Canton?
Oh well, i'll probably go see it.

Nationwide means all theaters, not select theaters. Someone needs to uh... correct that :/

"Nationwide" just means that it's playing in at least one cinema in a certain number of the top markets, not to be confused with a "wide" release, in which case it makes it to many screens within every market. Plenty of films with extremely limited releases get advertised as being in select theatres nationwide; all "nationwide" means, really, is that it is playing in some other cities besides just Los Angeles and New York.
