Woo! Was hoping Air Gear was going to pick up.
I've actually held off on purchasing this volume ever since I heard something about them retranslating the first GN due to some censorship or somewhat. Has that been released or what? |

I beleive so. Though the 2nd version has edited cover work: I'm not sure about translations...
The UK version from Tanoshimi is unedited though =D http://www.randomhouse.co.uk/tanoshimi/book.htm?command=Search&db=/catalog/main.txt&eqisbndata=0099506386 |

Dallas Middaugh at Del Rey said they wouldn't be editing any more dialogue (not sure if the unedited version of Vol. 1 is out yet, though). And yes, the cover image to Vol. 2 is censored, but the uncensored version appears inside the volume....you just have to peal the shrinkwrap off to get to it. |

I may need to try out this series again with the manga. Nothing about the anime really stood out and I really tried to get behind it. The animation quality wasn't even average, it was sub-par and in a series where fluidity of motion seems to be crucial to the story the poor animation damaged the quality of the series. Coming off of Tenjho Tenge Air Gear was a HUGE disappointment. Also in the anime none of the characters looked like they came from Oh! Great's hand (is there a pun there?). Scimca was the only one I could look at and say "That's Oh! Great's work." But that was probably more due to her figure than anything else. Ringo, a character who I imagine is supposed to be sexy, had no appeal at all. But then, I look at images from the manga, read this review and I see things that are as far as I can tell non-existant in the anime. From what I understand in the review there's a level of character development that I did not see in the anime.
When did all of that happen? I watched 10-12 episodes of the series and they characters remained "one-note." The manga designs also emit something that the anime is void of, style. The ladies of TenTen are sexy to say the least, but the stylish designs of the characters in Air Gear give me a sense that these are truly hip and sexy teens. All the more reason to give this series a second shot manga style. The only other experience I've had with a manga being significantly superior to it's anime counterpart is RahXephon, and that may be the case here. Besides like Carl I just can't get enough of Oh! Great's art. It's something really worth drooling over. It's just sad and hard to believe that a person with such skill has such a low brow sense of humor. When spoiler[Akito/Agito shows up, if the anime follows the manga then Ikki's sudden "display" really does ruin what's going on and it makes you wonder why one would be attracted to such a person. I found the whole scene distasteful and downright disgusting.] |
