This would be interesting: an exhibition (what's the nature of it? Sounds a bit like an art show to me) at a country where bootlegs are certified by the government. I'd also like to know if the name "Shaun Yu" would be mentioned.
Ah, I miss Ken Hayashi. |

I wouldn't take just one post by that guy as a indication that the government necessarily certifies bootlegs, really. Even if he's a great poster. Although it does look fishy, that was probably a well-crafted fake sticker or something... While the government isn't very publicly strict about piracy as it is with things like drugs, and I would be very reluctant to be "defending" the government, pardon me but the way you put it soudns as if we belong in the same category as China where they practically don't give a shit about piracy to the point where you could call them certifying bootlegs... Alright, that's just me being a stickler...
But it is true that the wonderful (yeeeah) Odex makes such bad, bad local releases that it's very easy to confuse it for a pirated version (including making stupid mistakes at the back, having lousy package designing and rather bad translation) As for this exhibition, my art teacher just talked to me about it today, coincidentially. I can type what's on the postcard which describes the event:
It's a bit misleading because I don't think they are really brining the actual animators together, just bringing their works together. But I'm definitely going just to see the production articles - they're obviously referring to genga, douga, layout, haikei and the finished cels (guess there's no point printing out equivalents for digitally-coloured animation, then). The other stuff is probably not going to be as great as they bill it to be, but I'd like to be surprised. I'll watch the documentary if possible, at least. Anyway, it's not aimed at anime fans but more like the general public who is vaguely aware of these shows. Certainly won't see anything about something as relatively 'obscure' as AIR. My memory is fuzzy but I don't think Shaun Yu was even mentioned in the normal papers. |
