So does the new format also replace the "North American Anime, Manga Releases" feature?

Also with the change could you also get a new header graphic?? The EVA tableware with the sticky bun has always made me a bit queasy.

Thank you for this new format! By putting all these publications in one place, I now can get an instant overview of what's available. You've never offered such convenience anywhere on your site before (that I've seen).

I'll come back to this again and again.

How often will you do it?

I kinda hope not, since this doesn't include light novels, and I prefer them over manga.

I applaud someone having the idea of anime, manga and games in one Shelf Life. However, the idea does not work that well in practice. There are just too many entries, and the article gets bogged down. Break it up into SL - Anime, SL - Manga, SL - Games and maybe SL - Light Novels.

Does this cover stuff coming out just tomorrow or for the entire week? Hard to tell without dates and some things don't release on Tuesdays.

This is really cool! Will people still be able to submit pictures of their shelves?

Wow, that's an impressive list of new releases. It would be nice to have distinct sections or labels for each of the media types, so I can tell at a glance whether each item is a manga or light novel or whatever it may be.

I rather like all the releases together like this. Could release dates please be put next to their MSRP? With this format, the actual date would be nice. Plus, if the release scrubber ever gets fixed, it would make life easier for whoever's adding entries into ANN's database in the future.

Will there still be the occasional review? I think it would be beneficial to at least do a review for major re-releases comparing whether the upgrade is worth it (like DVD-only stuff getting a new Blu ray transfer or upscale) or for stuff that skipped the US years ago and is only coming for the first time now (like Kimagure Orange Road). I just hope the reviews of the quality of the actual physical products don't faze away entirely, but I'd be okay with it being infrequent or in a different column.

I also second the header graphic change. It's been used for years, and it's time for a new one with a new format.

Not sure how i feel about the changes. Removing the reviews makes this seem to be just a "list," which basically makes this just an ad. Been reading this column for a long time, so my suggestions are:

1. Keep the reviews in one way or another; if a long one isn't feasible, then a shorter format of a few paragraphs would be fine with me.

2. If reviews aren't feasible, then at least include a short blurb for the new releases beyond "here's a link to a review from 2007." This has actually bugged me for quite a while, so it would be nice to get some personal touches to the "list of new stuff."

3. Keep posting pictures of shelves, when submitted. I always enjoy seeing those, and removing this feature just feels sad.

My idea of what Shelf Life was died a long time ago. The removal of just the one review each week is merely an epitaph.

That is kind of true. But really, Shelf Life pretty much lost its meaning when people stopped renting anime. In may ways, TWIA is a truer successor to Bamboo's original Shelf Life- with commentary on the anime "of the day." When this feature started, around the time when the next class of 2020 High Schoolers were being conceived and born, talking about the new physical releases was how you talked about "contemporary" anime. Now it's streaming.

I always enjoyed the Shelf Life reviews and participating in the forum discussions about the titles covered in the column, so I'll be a little disappointed if the Shelf Life just turns into a list that I likely won't pay as much attention to. I can understand if the people who did the Shelf Life reviews are no longer able to for whatever reason on a regular basis, but I hope they can still be done even if less frequently.

Why bother listing manga titles that 90% of the readership don't care about. I think I know most things but I hadn't heard of most of those manga titles. Why list video games when you already have a weekly video games column that usually lists them. I think you should stick to anime releases and one review weekly. I liked that better.

Well, regardless of the changes to the column, here's what I'm picking up this week:
(Big week for Yen Press releases, which means moe!)

Anime:
Katana Maidens: Toji no Miko Part 2

Manga:
Anne Happy Volume 9
Didn't I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life?! Volume 3
Forbidden Scrollery Volume 7 (final volume!)
Kiniro Mosaic Volume 9
Laid-Back Camp Volume 6

I'll probably still check out the column, but I'll miss the weekly review as that's my main draw.
I agree with others that the manga addition makes the list too bloated. It either needs to be it's own thing or trimmed down
