Looks like the FUNi Channel will be offered only on digital cable and digital broadcast. So folks with analog-only video service are just out of luck.

As to Verizon, it's been trying for exclusive content to differentiate itself from the cable companies it competes against. It's interesting that they went with an anime channel. Maybe they see anime as a bigger draw than most other potential outlets do. (^_*)

Man, if I could get Verizon FiOS, I would drop my cable company IN A FLASH. Compared to them, Verizon is the greatest thing to ever happen.

Well, by 2009, HDTV-only broadcast will be required by the U.S. government and analog-only will be extinct (that bandwidth will be auctioned off by the government for other uses).

I'm hoping that DirecTV will pick this up.

Because when they're given essentially fourteen hours of airtime on DISH Network to do whatever the hell they want, filling up all fourteen hours with DBZ was the first thing they did. Even though, oddly enough, they decided to give it new names like "Case Closed" and "Kiddy Grade." Rolling Eyes

Seriously man, that was weak.

Not entirely true. I heard that there is a converter box for those who can't afford to upgrade their TVs to plasma, LCD, etc.

Besides in 3 years, everyone has to convert and Verizon won't be exclusive then. Adult Swim still has the better lineup followed by IFC imo.

Unfortunately if Verizon gets exclusive rights to such content, then Funimation's exposure might be limited just to Verizon's market. Fine if you're in a big area, but not so fine for others.

Also anime might be easier to get because the market is still soft in the US, so pricing might be more favorable for Verizon.

Hopefully FUNi won't be locked down by V

No they won't because Cartoon Network still has the rights to DB, DBZ, and DBGT.

By the way, the analog shutoff date of 2009 applies only to over the air broadcasts, so it is possible that your cable provider will still give you analog-only services in 2009 and beyond.

I would like to watch Funimation Channle but I don't really plan on getting a cell phone. I wish I knew how to get Funimation off pay-per-view.

How good is the dub of Cased Closed? I missed the [as] broadcast and I am quite the fan of mystery stories; I ate up Spiral even though almost everyone I have spoken to calls it "gutter trash".

But, both won't be on the network because IFC is going to air Baslick and Adult Swim will air Trinity Blood.

I'll say it again: the network won't be dominated by DBZ because it won't be airing on the network. Cartoon Network still has the rights to it.

In case anyone's wondering, you can see the shows the channel is definitely airing at
http://www.funimationchannel.com/index.cfm?page=shows

I was pretty indifferent to my parents' decision to switch to Verizon FiOS last month, but now I'm glad they did because I'm watching the Funimation channel right now Very Happy Tenchi Muyo GXP is showing at the moment. The only bad thing so far is that they keep showing the same commericials for the same Funimation shows over and over, ugggh.

I've been enjoying Spiral on Colours for the last few weeks. The suspense is gripping and the characters aren't half-bad. I don't understand why it's so hated... Confused

As for Case Closed, I think it's pretty good. I haven't seen a lot of the original Detective Conan, but I think they were pretty faithful to the original, other than "Americanizing" some of the character's names.
