For some reason, when I clicked on the "directly" link, I was taken to some page with a data dump full of ????? and other random characters. I had to Ctrl-alt-del and force Firefox to quit to get out of it. Am I doing something wrong?

Does the world really need even more fanboys who think they can speak Japanese? ADV, why are you encouraging these people?

Maybe because there are other people out there like me who have learned, or are learning, to speak a different language and using a method that they enjoy? |

Because some of these fanboys could actually get inspired to take a language class when the get into college. Are you saying that these people should not try to learn? |

Of course, learning is just great. Super even. But I'm saying, do we really need any more 13 year olds running around calling everyone baka? Do we really need any more pre-teen girls shrieking kawaii at every guy, stuffed animal, or sparkly thing they see? And I wonder how many people will really be inspired by a podcast to take a language course. Chances are that if they have interest in watching the podcast in the first place, they already had an interest in the language. Anyway, I meant in in an entirely not-so-serious way, so there's no need to take such offense. |

Sure, I understand that you're not trying to be spiteful or anything, but still, what's so wrong with people learning a couple of Japanese phrases? It's not like the Japanese don't use random English words in their conversations, music, etc. that sound incredibly silly to us |

There's nothing wrong with learning them (I'm sure everyone here knows plenty, including myself), I just hate when people over-use them, or use them is a drastically incorrect way. I guess it's sort of a pet-peeve of mine. I just find it incredibly irritating. |

Wow, they could have at least had the people pronounce the words correctly. It sounds as if the people teaching have no idea about Japanese themselves and are reading off some roomaji script.
Yeah, and "Are you my mother?" is such a useful thing to learn...not. Actually I really like talking to my friends in Japanese and wish more people would know the language (I'm trying to get one of my anime buddies to learn so maybe he can come visit Japan with me), but "teaching" in such a half-assed manner isn't going to accomplish anything at all. Just watching anime can teach you perfectly...my mom knows someone who learned to speak Japanese nearly fluently just from watching anime . All you need to do is pay close attention and put some effort into it...I also have learned a lot of words and phrases from focusing on listening to/reading the scripts. |
