Ends worldwide on the same day. Well, evening of November 7th in the US, but I guess that's the 8th in Japan.

The end of a generation of memes is upon us. Thank you for filling my Smash Bros' stage with weird drawings. You will be missed, Miiverse.

I never really used Miiverse, with the exception of Splatoon and Wind Waker HD. The Wind Waker HD was only for pictures for the Nintendo Gallery so I could complete it faster while Splatoon you can draw for it. However, with Splatoon 2 allowing you to do that (and my Splatoon 1 data long gone), I won't miss this. I know some people will and it will be sad to see it go, I've already gotten over us losing things for Online when Playstation Home closed in 2015. It is a sad reality we live in now.

Oh wow I used to post on 3DS Miiverse all the time. Really fun to share accomplishments and stuff. Haven't been able to use my 3DS in a good year...my son split it in half lol

I don't really get the timing on this. It's true the Wii U is pretty much dead and buried, but the 3DS is still seeing multiple high-profile first-party releases, and Nintendo even released a new 2DS form-factor in the past few months. Why kill off a service that's still being used on currently-promoted systems?
In a broader sense it's really emblematic of Nintendo's continued baffling misunderstanding of networked gaming. It was kind of cute in the Wii days when they were making their first forays, but it's 2017 now. Creating Nintendo Network for the Wii U and 3DS, then coming up with a completely-separate account system for the Switch for no good reason...the nonsense with using a phone app to enable voice chat in games...the utterly-inexcusable tying of downloaded games to individual consoles instead of a unified account system...it really is absurd. I mean, I love Nintendo dearly, and they're the undisputed kings of local multiplayer, but at this point in the progression of online gaming they really need to figure their stuff out.

Yep, that's the problem right there.
Miiverse was easily one of the Wii U's best selling points; it was the best social network produced by any of the big console manufacturers. It's a real shame they're already killing it even though there's still no 3DS replacement on the horizon.
I don't even play multiplayer games, but the main reason I haven't bought a Switch yet is because of the lack of a (convenient, reasonable) account system and no cloud backups for saved games. There's absolutely zero excuse for a modern console to have less network functionality than a PS3.

Regardless of what they say. The Switch is intended to replace the 3DS just as much as the Wi U.

Well...Resulting from this, the Miiverse stage in Super Smash Bros. (WiiU and 3DS) will merely be a training stage now.
