"First your wrote about the new Cartoon Network VP, then the departure of Marvin Gleicher from Manga Entertainment, and now you're writing about the Bandai Namco merger. Does this place still write about anime, I mean, does anyone actually care about all the corporate crap??"

Figured I'd say it before someone else does.

The answer is yes to both questions, and that if you care about anime, you may want to pay attention to what happens at the top, because it affects what's on the shelves (or on tv) in a year.

Not to mention, our readers include industry people, not just consumers.

I remember when this was first announced. It's still hard to believe. It's going to be interesting to see how each company affects the other.

Not only that now when Bandai actually acquires different anime series they can let Namco develop their games so in the future there might be an actually Gundam game better than sub-par. Or for that matter any anime which bandai owns the right to.

Square Enix, Sega Sammy, Namco Bandai..

...Someday there's just going be ONE giant, scary Japanese toy and game company. Very Happy

And that, my friends, is the end of the Universe.

Tempest brought up a good point, but my question is normally "How does this affect me?" not "Should I care?"

Alright, I'm a bit confused by just what to call this new company. The logo and web address are titled "Bandai Namco", but their reports refer to it as "Namco Bandai". I'm guessing NB is correct since the new company is "Namco Bandai Holdings Inc.", so why refer to it in two different ways?

I have very high hopes for this merger. Cross-company cooperation will hopefully result in a large amount of quality entertainment. Between animation, video games, and toys there should be a great deal of excellent work forthcoming. Very Happy

That should be a level in the unlikely event of another Katamari Damacy sequel Razz

The upcoming Gundam game for PS3 looks pretty sweet. Then there is the upcoming Katamari for PSP. Razz Need the less, I can't wait to see what games this new company will come up with.

And, if things go the way they are going, Electronic Arts will probably be the one to own them all. That is, at least, if EA has its way. But, that would be one giant American Japanese toy and game company. Anime smile

Aside from that, this should be a good thing for both companies. Although, I have no desire to see Namco scrap the Ace Combat series, I do believe that the Gundam games are... Well... Most of them are junk, and Namco may be able to introduce a really great Gundam game into the line-up of "less than great" Gundam titles out there.

At least, that is my perspective.

I wonder if this means that instead of the Bandai Entertainment logo we see at the beginning of the DVD, we'll see Bandai Namco instead.

I don't think so, judging by the way the website is set up they'll remain separate entities in that respect. They'll continue to use their respective names for their respective products with Namco Bandai Holdings being the parent company so to speak. The new logo doesn't appear to eliminate the old logos.
