Animeigo discusses the details on volumes 49 and 50 of their longest-running property.

Their longest? As far as all US anime compaines, this series is the longest. It started back in '92 and now it '05. But what a ride, mostly the delay ride, but it was worth it.

Not sure... CPM's been releasing Patlabor for quite a while too. But I'm glad it's all getting out. One of my favorite series since I became a fan. I'm only up to 25 on the TV series, but I at least picked up the OVA box and most of the movies.

Yeah, but Patlabor's about 100 episodes shorter than UY. ^^;;

But I'm pretty sure UY is the longest series to be completed on DVD on these shores, and will remain as such until FUNimation finishes up with Dragon Ball Z.

True, but we were talking long as in their release. UY started in the early 90's with VHS but only got up to Volume 25, and then started over on DVD. Patlabor has had the same thing, pretty much. I think Patlabor has been in the process of release longer, but there is no question about UY being the longer series.

I don't think anything Patlabor got released state-side until about 1996, and they finished putting everything on VHS (excluding the third movie, which didn't exist at the time) by about 1999, so, even for length of time, Urusei Yatsura's release has taken longer.

Ok, here it is for Dragonball:
Dragonball: 153 episodes (released on 11 boxsets, or 51 DVDs(?))
Dragonball Z: 291 episodes (seems to be released on 87 DVDs)
Dragonball GT: 65 episodes (released on 20 DVDs)
plus
4 Dragonball movies
13 Dragonball Z movies.

Originally 14 episodes were cut by Saban in the earliest broadcast of the series back in 1996/97. An episode was also cut after the series moved to Cartoon Network in 1999. The lost episode from 1999 is available on the appropriate Uncut VHS/DVD from the Freeza saga and is simply not numbered. The 14 episodes that were cut under Saban are currently being released in FUNimation's new "Ultimate Uncut" DVD series.

Basically, because of all these cut episodes the numbering got messed up on the American DVD release, but all 291 episodes will be available once the new "Ultimate Uncut" DVDs are finished being released, so rest assured that you're not missing out on anything. Very Happy

No, the "Ultimate Uncut" is only going to cover the first 67 episodes of the series. These episodes were previously released edited-only by Pioneer as episodes 1-53 (the Saiyan and Namek sagas, minus the 14 cut episodes). So if you already own the Ginyu through Kid Buu sagas on FUNimation's DVDs, then there's no need to worry about re-purchasing those episodes.

So in the end you'll only need to buy about 20 new DVDs to cover the uncut release of the Saiyan/Namek sagas.

The "Ultimate Uncut" will also cover DBZ movies 1-3 (previously dubbed and released by Pioneer), but if you already own the Pioneer release I'd suggest simply keeping those since they have a better dub. Very Happy

Getting back on topic now and this UY news doesn't state if it was dubbed, or not. I know AnimEigo was allegedly starting to dub the beginning series but I haven't heard much about them since.

How in the heck did Dragonball sneaked in here? Confused I wasn't talking about how long the series is, I was pointing out it took 13 years to finally finish the series release in the States. Besides Patlabor and Dragonball (From DB to DB GT) had finish their inital releases, on VHS and DVD. I'm pretty sure Saban didn't release Dragonball tapes until the late 90's.

At first, it was just the Movies and OVAs that going to get dubbed, but when they ask the fans how they felt about the dubbing the everything else, the fans said no. So, they dub just the movies.
