this story is kinda ironic given that he played Phoenix Wright.Hell,he even voiced him in that Prof. Layton crossover game...

Narimiya stated that a friend whom he "had trusted from the bottom of his heart" had "betrayed" him.

spoiler[Kristoph Gavin strikes again.] (Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney spoiler)

It's a shame he's quitting the industry, and I'm curious as to whether the allegations are true or not. If they are true, not the smartest move, but if not it's unfortunate to have them ruin his career.

... Also, it was really weird when I realized that Yanagisawa and Yukimura in Assassination Classroom: Graduation were played by Phoenix and Maya from Ace Attorney, given the relationships between the two pairs of characters.

Honestly, I doubt he'd do this if it wasn't true. He's basically admitting guilt.

So sad that Mr. Narimiya-san's career came to a depressing end over an allegation of cocaine use. Sad His acting was phenomenal. I wish him the best of luck in his future plans.

There are fixes for that, despite what brainwashed people seem to think. This is why you do not let others take your pictures or record your voice, regardless of situation or relationship. Your "privacy" is your own responsibility, and ends as soon as there is more than yourself involved with it.

Good grief, that's awful. It sucks further because even though he's clean and these allegations have proven to be false, he's still choosing to retire to avoid causing trouble for the agency and anyone else that knows him.

This is unfortunately the case over there. It also pretty much prevents you from being hired for any other line of work, which is utterly crazy. It's like you're accused of being the most untrustworthy creature on the continent and that you must be completely ignored by society for there to be any semblance of balance again.

I really loved Nari in various works, and he was probably the primary reason why I even started watching J-Dramas in the first place. His acting is really nice, and he plays such great characters, from a cute guy like Nobu to a dark, charismatic character like J from Bloody Monday.

I've seen people retire from the entertainment business because it felt like a lot of pressure for them. The article did say he did discuss wanting to retire a few times, but his agency didn't want him to until, so I'm assuming that it wasn't just the drug allegations, but he was already tired of tabloids trying to pry into his life. He already had a scandal exposing him for being supposedly gay in the past, as well after all. :c

It takes a real person to just throw his/her dreams away. Respect...if he really didn't do it.

Cocaine? You don't even lose your personal parking spot over here for that. Japan's attitude towards drugs is too draconian.
