The humor Kouta throws into his works are indeed weird, but they kinda work in my opinion. I've grown accustomed to it over the years, so it doesn't bother me.
I'm lookin' forward to enjoying Drifters some more.

No mention of the kickass OP at all?! By far some of the best action scenes I've seen in a while. It's great to have a show that doesn't shy away from violence, while also being well directed. I totally agree on the humor screwing up the tone though;the scene of Shimazu bashing the commander's head into mush with his sheath and the elves finishing him off was genuinely, horrific and emotional, and the scene is ruined with a shitty joke.
Besides that aspect am loving this show so far.

Even though I don't actually get much out the humor, it doesn't really feel out of place to me. The tone of the show doesn't seem to lend itself well to genuinely serious moments even without the jokes. I wouldn't have taken the knight's death at the hands of the elves as a genuine emotional moment even if they had cut out the attempt at being funny. I must read tone differently.

I've always seen Kouta Hirano's works as interested in entertaining one person Kouta Hirano. I like his stuff but it's very obvious he does what he does for himself and it is enjoyable. I actually like Drifters more than Hellsing as it feels for lack of a better term grounded mostly because of Shimazu Toyohisa being the point of view character I feel.

Never watched Hellsing but I personally rather like the humor, I think the joke are funny and they show just how detach all the character are to the violence, what might seems like an horrible murder might just be something Nobunaga is accustomed to, so no problem for him to make a joke after it. I've been feeling like some good old fashion amoral over the top violence so I'm quite glad at how this is developing, wonder how much we'll actually get of the whole "conquer territory" things, I hope they eventually make there own army and go on to try and conquer the world, would be quite entertaining.
The animation is a bit all over the place, it's pretty barebone outside of fight (with plenty of essentially single frame shoot) but it's pretty good in the battle, I guess that's the best way they could have done so, rather than distribute the budget evenly and have worse battle.
And yes, the OP is great, love sinking the month to the song.

This is the show frustrated me the least. That's a major accomplishment in my books. Maybe I shouldn't be watching I Hate Everything's "I Hate Anime" videos at the start of every season...
Oh well. I might still be in the dark but the pacing is downright superb. It relishes in its ultra-violence, not using animation shortcuts and showing the entire slaughter (unless it's obscured). That opening...oh man...

The comedic parts, by themselves, are fine. But as noted in the Review, their placement within the episode feels awkward and disrupts the pacing a bit. On the plus side, Nakamura Yūichi's accented speech pattern is fun to hear.

The comedy is honestly more funny in the manga, where most of it is relegated to a single panel. But even then it's still rather funny. Nobu points out this box just so everyone can spend a full page posing on it in a cool way.
The comedy will drop off eventually though as we get into the meat of the story though, don't worry.

I thought the timing of the first bit of comedy was fine but the second was terrible. Kouta has never made me laugh at those parts. Instead I laugh at the very dark humor within the 'real' portions of his manga. He excels at an ultraviolent glee that I can't help but laugh at. There's such beauty in his depiction of horrible things.
I wasn't sure I'd like this after the first episode, but the second makes me want more of it. It's not just the above, but the fact that there's a purpose to it. Hellsing had some glorious moments but no plot, and his fumbling with that were annoying to no end. This actually seems to have a story in which case I'm all in.
Btw, hobbits? Can they do that? I guess the word isn't trademarked so they can. That'll be interesting.
And oh yeah, that OP....

The manga uses "halflings", which is probably what we'll use in our version of episode 2 to avoid confusion with Tolkien's works. "Halfling" is the name most Non-Tolkien games and works of fiction use to describe the race (such as Dungeons and Dragons, etc). I think it makes more sense.

Na na na na, na na naah!
The OP is so freaking catchy. Though, Seru's sagging breasts in the 3D presentation of the characters look so weird.
I love the presentation of Drifters, it's just so strong and always overcoming any shortcoming it might have, so well-directed. I even like the humor, I don't ever feel like it kills my mood, I think they come at the right time when the whole dramatic part has gone over and it lets you relax a little.

I asked this in the preview thread, but it got (expectedly) lost in the shuffle. So, for those who have seen it, would you mind letting me know if this looks likes it's censored? ie; blacked out scenes, beams of light etc. Just based on the Hellsing pedigree, I would expect copious amounts of gore and often that gets covered up, so I was just curious.
Thanks

As far as I recall, it's as explicit as the manga, which is quite a bit. It's pretty gorish, but uh...not on a ridiculous level, and I don't think they've exactly censored anything.

To be fair, the breasts on the men at like 2:28 are doing the same "sagging" animation, lmao

Miraculously, it's not really censored at all
