This show honestly just reminds me of how much I wish some of Junko's actual bl manga would be adapted for anime, but it doesn't look like that'll be happening anytime soon.

Anyways, I am enjoying it a lot so far, which is not surprising considering I read bits of the manga and liked it. It's funny and relatable at times too. Obviously some aspects are kinda problematic but hey, it's fiction. (Also, I'm gonna riot if Kae ends up choosing anyone that's not Mutsumi. He's so obviously the best option considering he actually liked her before she got "hot").

I'm a huge fan of the manga and while the adaptation is acceptable, I have issues with how it was translated to anime.

Like Amy mentioned, the "fat-voice" is ridiculously dumb and while it doesn't really make the already absurd premise less believable, it adds absolutely nothing to Kae and insinuates fat people have different voices than thin people. Uh, what?

Yu Kobayashi is great but I feel the other seiyuus are only acceptable so far. Admittedly the characters are very meh at first, but the voice acting isn't really elevating them in anyway.

Personally, I find the music terrible. It's really distracting and generally really bad. Also, is it just me, or in episode 2, did the music seem really loud? I couldn't hear the voice acting very well at times over the loud music.

I generally find reverse-harems to be funnier than regular harem comedies so yay for this one keeping the pattern alive!

Episode 2's sound was really off, but it's otherwise been a joy.

I wish I could love this show more, but the guys are just...almost all impossible to like because of the premise. If the show committed to being a complete parody, it might be much more enjoyable, but I'm sure one of the guys will be endgame.

I read some of the manga, and the only harem member I like has no chance of "winning". Being a girl in a shojo reverse-harem, she has no chance right from the start. Not to metion she gets introduced after the main cast, and I've read enough shojo to know what that means. Sigh. spoiler[It doesn't help that she's the only one the feels EXACTLY the same about Kae no matter what weight she is. Even history-sempai didn't love her when she was overweight.]

I also have an issue with the way she lost weight, which a lot of people have mentioned. I can accept some breaks from reality, but this one is....ugh. And the voice-acting for "pre-starvation" Kae is...uuuuuuugh. And....why does her hair color change?

The way the dudes IMMEDIATELY move in on her like a bunch of circling vultures is also pretty creepy.

And of course there's the issue of shipping real people. I know at least one of my friends did it when she was in middle school, but that stuff's always made me uncomfortable.

Sorry for the lack of coherency. There's just...a lot. There's a lot. It looks pretty though! I'll never get used to short-hair dude with green hair but hey! It's also pretty good at comic timing, and doesn't go overboard on sparkly backgrounds

With the possible exception of Mutsumi, none of Kae's potential beaus are crazy about her being a fujoshi, but they ultimately decide to table their reservations in light of her hotness.

I like to think of this as a shining example of salutary male behaviour ... the ability to be open-minded when presented with new, relevant information.

Very funny show so far, I can't wait to see more. I have absolutely no problems with the so called "troublesome aspects"

well one has to have really thin skin to be bothered by that, disregarding the fat voice thing because that's really dumb and maybe even mildly ofensive, offensive to the anime staff life experience, I mean.

I guess the biggest Leap of Faith the show has asked me are:

  • Serinuma Kae's complete body makeover, even her height. Being a mainly-comedic show, I know I'm suppose to "laugh it off," but the build-up was, IMO, poorly-executed, so I can't quite ignore it.
  • Serinuma, Igarashi Yūsuke, and Nanashima Nozomu are second-year students, which is why I find it odd that first-year Shinomiya Hayato, as well as third-year Mutsumi Asuma are practically in the second-year class almost constantly.

I'll give it another episode or two to get accustomed to the show's humor, maybe it'll "click" with me, but so far it's just another show to me.

This is a Funimation joint, and if I understand the deal correctly, Funi preps it and shoots it to CR to stream? At any rate, I've run into this too-loud-music problem with Funimation titles again and again (anyone remember that episode of Arslan that drowned out the dialog with music and hoofbeats?), especially with trailers for some reason, even on dvds. I don't know what they're doing or why it keeps happening with them, but I wish someone would fix it already. Surely some of their audio engineers know how to read sound levels. (I sense an Answerman question brewing)

The second episode was better than the first, since we didn't have to deal with the crappy first half issues and could just move on with the story. I certainly related to her tossing everything into the closet. Smile And it was pretty funny when they were startled by finding a "body" both in and under the bed. Hard to believe they've never heard of dakimakura though. Don't even normal teens in Japan at least know about those?

The second ep. was actually pretty funny, so i'm just going to pretend that ep.1 never existed and keep watching for now.

The soccer training was pretty funny (so watching lots of sports anime really helps, eh?) and all the guys praying at Shion's shrine really cracked me up.

It's funny you mention this because I happen to reference this problem in a completely unrelated thread in the Retail forum yesterday. I have found this problem on a number of Funi physical releases where it seems sound levels are not properly mixed and so loud music does drown out dialogue, for example. Nice to know its not just in my head.

I actually came on here to make a comment about that. Glad it wasn't just me or my speakers having an issue. I could barely hear the dialogue over the music and sound effects, which made me thankful that I could at least read the subtitles. Still, it was very distracting, and I hope that they find a way to avoid this on future episode uploads.

I should mention I did not happen to notice this problem in KH,NM ... it's just something I've noticed in other Funi DVDs and Blu-rays.

Given the show's jokey premise, I was surprised to see an actual effort to develop the principal characters beyond their surface quirks.

when the show was beign heavily croitiziced on how the male characters are shallow adn undeep and only caringfor tae's appareance and that it somehow was bad for the show to be like that, I missed the chance of poiting out, well, how are we supossed to have characters that develop and become better persons if we want the to start as eprfect moral bastions anyway ?
The point of the guys being like that in the start is to show how they mature along with tae. also, going with the previes, the next episode we finally get introduced to the best boi.
