The Dark Tournament was so deadly that entire sections of the crowd died.

What about the tournament in Dragon BallZ during the Buu saga? Vegeta wiped out like the entire crowd.

More like everyone that lost died. The only survivors were Team Urameshi (excluding Genkai, of course) and those three guys from the crazy doctor's team.

OG Yu-Gi-Oh always seemed goofily deadly. At some point they started playing it where the combatants felt the physical pain that the monsters felt and they made a card where if you lost a match, you'd be trapped forever in a realm of torture. On the "upside," winning got you a crappy trophy and bragging rights for being good at a lame ass kid's card game.
There are deadlier tournaments, but at least in those you could win something worthwhile. Yu-Gi-Oh is just throwing your life away for nothing other than bragging rights about some stupid game. It'd be like people dying so they could be ranked #1 on a Xbox Live leaderboard.

Yeah, that was my point. On top of the tons of dead participants, hundreds of crowd members also get killed. Nobody was safe at that tournament.

This seems more like a list of deadly tournaments in general, not regular tournaments gone wrong (like DBZ). Yu Yu Hakusho might fit under the latter as well. Maybe. The Dark Tournament is run by some really twisted people.

Aw, my favorite ridiculous, over-the-top tournament series isn't in the poll options... As stupid as the show was, I found Law of Ueki to be rather amusingly bad. I mean, who comes up with "the power to turn people into glasses lovers when they strike the goody-two-shoes pose" anyway? Voted for Ranma instead, even if I prefer the manga. Might have voted for Yakitate! Japan had I seen more of it.
Was not surprised to see Deadman Wonderland on the list. Was a bit surprised about Eden of the East, however. Admittedly I don't watch a lot of series of this sort, though.

I actually just finished watching the dark tournament a few days ago. lol
Couple of guys in team Urameshi lost, but clearly they lived.
Some other guys lived too. Chu and Rinku from Rokuyukai and JIn and Touya from Masho. There are others too I think, but I forget who...

Count me among those disappointed by the exclusion of the Dark Tournament. It didn't deserve #1 perhaps, but at least deserved to be on here somewhere.
Unless maybe it's the missing #7?
I dunno if I agree about the Buu arc's tournament in DBZ or not though...it was pretty deadly for the crowd, but at the same time...I dunno.
Other mentions I can think of would have been the Chunin Exam arc of Naruto, and perhaps Hunter x Hunter. I haven't personally experienced HxH, but isn't it pretty much one huge tournament at first too?

Isn't Gantz tournament-ish? I half-expected this title to be on the list.

Should be noted that the tournament in Bokurano doesn't just put the whole planet at stake but the entire universe it exists in. The tournament was created to "prune" the garden that is the multiverse. Definitely deserves #1.
