I was gonna post this in Trivia for Pokemon 2000 in the encyclopedia, but after looking at the Pokemon Video, i'm not too convinced.

According to this Iron Chef Fansite, Kaga Takeshi sang for the Pokemon 2000 Movie begining, and that his version of the song went thru the American Version without being cut for some teen pop singer.

But, when I viewed my copy of Pokemon 2000, the song was gone from the begining, and not at the end. Or in the movie period.

So, what's the real story?

I saw P2k in theaters (1st in line, ahead of #2 and #3, two then-8th graders who were #2-3 in line for Pokemon 1. I was #1 for that, too) and definately do not remember any Japanese lyrics. The first Japanese lyrics I remember hearing in an American release of Pokemon was the ending theme of Jirachi (Pokemon Movie 6), excepting a handful of times when 'special' Japanese clips were used as bumpers on KidsWB.

I don't remember the melody being used as background music in the P2k movie either, but maybe I'm wrong about that.

Well, should I just enter the info into the Japanese version only? Or wait until someone can confirm it was in the American version?

I'd say don't even put it in for the Japanese version, unless you yourself have seen the Japanese version and thus can confirm it. That is, of course, what people are supposed to be doing for encyclopedia entries. ;)

I've seen the Japanese version of "Pokémon 2000" AKA Revelation Lugia. In fact, I own it, along with all the other Japanese versions of the Pokémon movies. The only vocal songs actually played in the movie were "Rivals!" (sung by Matsumoto Rika, Satoshi's seiyuu) and "Toi et Moi" (sung by Namie Amuro). However, there are several unused vocal songs on the soundtrack ("Ware wa Korekutaa", "Hateshinai Sekai", "Minna ga Ita Kara", etc.). Unfortunately, I can't read kanji to read the names of the singers, so... I'm not sure.

I know that Ware wa Korekutaa was sung by Jirarudan's seiyuu (not entirely sure of the name), and Hateshinai Sekai was sung by Furura's seiyuu (again, not sure of the seiyuus of minor characters, with a few exceptions), and Minna ga Ita Kara is Matsumoto Rika again.

And there were definitely no Japanese songs in the English version. Like Cookie said, the first time they actually used the Japanese music was "Chiisaki Mono", the ending theme of the 6th movie. And they even dubbed part of that.

If you can scan the back cover in, I can read them for you.

Sorry, my scanner doesn't work because of my computer's stupid haywire USB ports. -_-

Anyway, it would be a lot easier to just look up the names of seiyuu who did the voices for Jirarudan and Furura. Unfortunately, I can't do that either due to my homework load tonight.

Ol' Takeshi Kaga has quite the singing portfolio, believe it or no. He played Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat as well as the male lead in Les Miserables. He's been in a handful of movies and other TV shows, too.

Oh, and rumours of his death by fugu poisoning? Totally unfounded. I think he just wound up having an appendectomy or something.
