I've seen the Gunbuster1-2 OAVs. I understand Gunbuster vs Diebuster is a movie version of both placing them in chronological order. There's also movie versions of both OAVs. I'm sure many bought the movies just to complete their collection however what are the advantages of owning any of the movie versions?

You're a bit confused on the details.

The Gunbuster and Die Buster movies, which are mostly summaries of the OVA series, are not stand-alones but were instead originally shown back-to-back with an intermission in between; hence there is no difference between those and the Gunbuster vs. Die Buster movie.

The big advantage with getting the movies is the (rather cool) Extras which come with them and a much better sound mix on Gunbuster. If you're not interested in that, and are not a completist, then the minimal new animation/changed footage in the Die Buster movie does not justify picking up the movies if you already own both series.

You can see the full details and explanation in this review, which I did early this year.

I would own both series, if they were selling for real prices, not those crazy fake falsely-inflated Japanese prices.

I'll buy Gunbuster when it's sub-$30.

Key, thanks for the helpful review. I preordered the Blu-ray version to, if anything, share the moviegoer's experience.
