I know that frequently, when an anime series has a movie release, it more or less doesn't fall into the realm of the actual continuity of the story. However, there are usually characters and information discussed in these movies that allows fans to gauge a general idea of where in the characters lives this event may have taken place (i.e., the Sailormoon movies are best watched after the seasons of the same names).

I just purchased the Bleach: Memories of Nobody DVD, and I was trying to figure out at least a vague idea of where this movie falls in terms of the series. I would rather not watch the movie and have anything spoiled for me (i.e. characters and their abilities).

I hate to constantly ask these continuity questions on the boards, but most anime fansites I run across aren't very clear or don't care about where these movies fall. I am currently watching through Bleach (and Naruto) for the first time, and I'd like to keep the big surprises and reveals for the series itself.

Later in this thread, I ask about the Naruto movies.

If you're watching Bleach on Cartoon Network then you should be fine. This movie takes place shortly after the Soul Society arc. The movie came out in Japanese theaters at the tail end of the Bount filler arc and contains nothing from the filler so if you've gotten through episode 63 you're golden, if you're working through the DVDs you'll want to wait a few months for them to catch up.

That's good information to keep in mind. I wish I had something helpful like this way back in the day when I was buying my Ranma ½ VHS tapes, but then again Viz put them out in an odd way in the first place. Rolling Eyes

I've actually been watching Bleach through the box sets, not the individual discs, so I'm only up to episode 41. I almost broke down and watched the movie last night, but when I was flipping through the booklet, I saw Soi Fon in there, who I have not been introduced to in the series.

Thanks for the informations!

So we'll need to wait for Season 3 right? Anyway I've actually yet to watch the anime, but I picked up the movie. That said, I've read through the first major plot arc in the manga. (I actually just finished volume 21)

That means I should be OK to watch the movie (IE no spoilers) right? I mean I could wait, but I'd be haning on to the DVD and not watching it for a few MONTHS! :O

Anyway I was actually just about to make a thread like this so this is rather convenient. (as a side note I plan to order the uncut season 1 and 2 boxsets shortly. . . but why is uncut season 2 so much more expensive? Season 1 is 47 & Season 2 is like 70. WTH? (This is on Amazon.ca)

I noticed that, too... but it is just good business sense to make the first volume in a series cheaper to hook more impulse buyers... so that they then go out and buy the more expensive sets because they like the show. Once you get that first buy, the rest come much easier... especially with a show like Bleach where the first "season" is as much bland intro stuff as anything-- the exciting stuff is in boxset 2 and a forthcoming boxset 3.

Also keep in mind that the second boxset is the most recent release, so keeping it at premium price for the time being is beneficial to Viz. When the third set is released, you might see the second set be discounted down to the first set's price.

Actually, it will spoil you one thing: Rukia's released Zanpakutou and its abilities. But it won't spoil anything plot related beyond the SS arc.

I believe the MSRP for season 2 is a bit higher due to the higher episode count, but I'm not sure why the price difference is that big on Amazon.ca.

I don't even think I've seen Rukia fight ever. (in the manga) other than a few spells.

As a side note, I definately plan to buy season 1 & 2, but it might be a bit because I need to get the money together! LOL

Maybe I'll just hold off watching the movie for a bit.

I don't know if you have an FYE near your house, but a lot of anime box sets are buy one get one free, including both Bleach seasons 1 and 2. The FYE I work at has it so you can get both for no more than $45.

I now repeat the question I initially stated, but in regards to the Naruto movies now. I just bought both Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow and Legend of the Stone of Gelel, and I don't know if I am able to watch either of them. Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow seems like it may be alright, since it's got Kakashi, Sakura, Sasuke, and Naruto all together, rather than a different line up. But I have no idea.

I just finished box 6 of Naruto (episode 78). I have boxes 7 and 8, but haven't watched them yet. Should I wait or can I watch one/both of these movies now?

WHOA, hold up on movie 2! Until you've seen up to boxset 10, the very presence of the characters in movie 2 will give away a pretty big spoiler.

As for movie 1, wait until you've finished boxset 8, then go for it.

Yep, the first movie has a pretty big attack and character spoiler which is built up during box sets seven and eight so you'll want want to get through those first. The second movie has some serious character spoilers that you'll want to get through box set 10 before learning about. On the plus side you can watch the third movie after you watch the second since both take place after Naruto "ends" and before spoiler[Naruto Shippuuden, the sequel TV series].
