I wonder if this will be standard shonen fare or if this will actually be interesting? After the first episode, the evidence will be clear.

"Standard shounen fare"? Not very likely. Unless they deviate from the source rather drastically this series should be far closer to Utawarerumono than Naruto or One Piece.

promising director but Yuko Goto is really annoying. also to the first post, it usually takes more than 1 episode to see how a series is going

From bottom left to upper left to right: perky/cute/innocent love interest, silver-haired mysterious friend/enemy/backstabber/sorta-ally/something else altogether, maybe, and hot-blooded/angry/vengeful generic shonen hero.

The game already has been brought to America: HimeyaShop had both the PC (contains ero scenes) and the PS3 (no ero scenes) version last time I checked. There is a fan-created english language patch (you must have the game to use the patch) available for the PC version - Google is your friend.
Game story synopsis from ad: A demon king named Arawn has been sealed away for 1,200 years. One day, priests decide to perform a resurrection ritual of Arawn and a girl named Riannon is offered as a sacrifice. Just before it takes place, Arthur, Riannon's brother, saves her, but Arawn comes back to life....

Sorry to ruin the fun for you, but the one in the middle is the main character.

You think that those who liked Utawawhateveritis would be prone to like this series, or do you simply use these two to compare genres? I've honestly never heard of Tears to Tiara before, but I did like Uta.

Here I thought I had it pegged. Dammit.
Oh yeah, I love how the original PC version had, um, hentai scenes. I mean, really, must half the anime out there start out as eroge these days?

I would have never thought this anime was based off a H PC game, the characters look like average anime characters, not typical H game characters.
Frankly, I really don't understand why series start out as eroge.

While I was indeed comparing genres, I'd also be inclined to think that someone who enjoyed Utawarerumono would probably find Tears to Tiara to their liking as well. Assuming that the anime adaptation sticks to original storyline, of course. Where Utawarerumono took it's look and feel from the Ainu people, Tears to Tiara uses a Celtic/Gaelic/Arthurian Mythos theme. But there are many similarities, which isn't surprising since both games were created by the same company.

For the same reason that Hollywood makes movies based on comic books: there is a ready-made storyline and characters, and a pre-existing fanbase whose interest - at least initially - the studio can count on. Most popular eroge also wind up getting a non-eroge console game adaptation so the number of people in Japan (and elsewhere) who are familiar with these games is larger than you might think.

Utaweirdname was also an H-game, huh? I didn't know anything about that series, aside from the masked protagonist, till I read a Wiki synopsis. Then I discovered that -- oh JOY -- the show is a harem anime. I was interested in Utacan'tevenpronounceit until I found that out, as I'm pretty sure I've made my opinions on harem shows pretty clear.
I wonder if this one will make it to America, or shall it be doomed to obscurity?

If you've watched Welcome to the NHK, you'll see why many games start out as eroge despite the emphasis on story.

This is directly aimed at Utawarerumono fans. However, bear in mind that Tears to Tiara wasn't anywhere as well received as the former (in terms of both gameplay and story), so it's hard to gauge what viewers will think.

The fact that Machida and Kobayashi are involved give me a ton of hope for this series! Here's to keeping fingers crossed!
