while its obvious that most of here collect anime and manga, and many collect various posters, I was wondering what other things some of you collect. Mostly since I see things in stores and think to myself, "do people actually collect those!?!"
so what other anime related items do you guys collect. While I know figures are big for collectors, I've never actually known someone who collects them. I don't understand why someone would pay thousands of dollars in a figurine...of course most things that I've collected I've gotten for free or they were gifts, since I'd much rather spend my money on expanding my dvd collection. But it seems like people aren't that interested in getting all the merchandise for their favorite series, but rather choosing to spend their money on other shows. Are collectibles still part of the fandom like they used to be? Or are fans not as interested in getting all the collectible items if it will cost them more money?

Well, I like Gundam models, but my room is so small, and I have no display cases that they'd only get dusty if I put them out.
I'd like to get some more wallscrolls once we move in the new (2-story) house.

Let's just say it's maximizing resources. I never got a chance to get many collectables (other than a Kenshin wallscroll) because of limited money and no credit card (which equals almost no on-line ordering). Other than the wall scroll, I have a deck of Ah! My Goddess cards (which have been well used, some would say too much).

I've collected misc items, like Figurines, Models, and even parts of displays (Only Tokyo Babylon, Fruits Basket, One of Viz's Dumps Header with Alita on it, and one other that escapes me at the moment.)
My room is too full to accomidate more stuff (I'm a Lego Junkie). Gotta do a Clean Sweep of old stuff.

Well, I have the McFarlane Ryoko figure, bunch of Gundam models, the Wangan Midnight Akuma no Z model kit from Fujimi, and I plan on getting more resin figure kits.
Anyone have a Mihoshi resin kit, preferable 1/8th scale, give me a holler.

Shitajiki
Shitajiki
Shitajiki...
(also known as pencil boards)
I've got all sorts and types... I just wish there were more collectors out there. It's a niche even amongst collectors, even enough to make it seem a bit dead at times, but I love it still.

I collect models of my favorite character from series. Like right now I just got two new models of Guts and Caska from Berserk. I love these models so much, because these two characters are probably my most favorite of any anime series.
I am also saving up money to get a reverse bladed sword, because I was so shocked that I actually found one on-line. I, like Tony, would love a pair of twin Kodachi's. Sadly though the only place that I have been able to find them on the net, they were like $400 or so .
Other collectibles that I have are some plushies from Fruits Basket(kisa and hatsaharu in the their animal forms), and then some gundam models from Seed that I just thought were awesome. That about sums it up I think

I’ve collected a ton of wall scrolls back in the day. It was a big thing at the time. I also used to collect a bunch various figurines. Since then, I have sold them all, with the exception of a DBZ bamboo wall scroll that is hung behind my computer desk and a Spike Spiegel figure that’s still in its’ original package.
That’s it.
I was kind of caught up with the whole collecting craze back then. But, I no longer collect anything other than the actual anime itself.

Macross toys, but only the recent Yamato releases. I don't care about the old stuff...
DVDs, CDs, art books, manga, and statues/figures. Not action figures, though....
And resin kits....

Yeah, those Yamato Macross toys are really nice. The new deluxe version is pretty awesome. Nice detail.

I have exactly ONE figurine of Motoko Kusanagi (or was it Deunan Knutes) and it came bundled with a free DVD of the 1-minute preview to the new Appleseed movie.
I don't really collect stuff that much, prefer to spend my money on DVDs and VCDs. I have been looking high and low for a little trinket that I can hang on my mobile phone though (I know this is a little girlie thing), and I'd really like it to be a little SD figurine of Ruri Hoshino.
Wife though, she collects Hello Kitty stuff, plush toys, whatever. Even though she doesn't watch the Hello Kitty anime (I'd rather call it cartoon).

I've been collecting toys for about 12 years or so now. Just like I say you can call yourself an anime fan until you're old enough to know what anime is, I don't see how a person can really call themselves a toy collector until they've reached the age where most kids are no longer interested in toys. For me I just never stopped buying, it was how I bought that changed. I went from buying-to-play to buying-to-have. People usually don't spend money on something willingly unless they enjoy it, I enjoy it. Really it's no different buying toys than it is watching anime, especially today where the adult market in toys is increasing more and more each day. Just like where you have anime made for kids, teens, and adults, you have toys that have been designed to be enjoyed by kids, teens, and adults, and just like with anime, it's acceptable to dive into stuff that you arn't the intended demographic for. One thing that makes toy collecting better than anime: value. LDs, VHSs, and DVDs usually just drop in price, especially once they've been open, but with toy collecting, there's such a limited supply and limited release window that everything goes up in value atleast a little bit, even if it's been openned. And the longer you wait the higher it'll go.
But like I said, I collect to have so I don't really pay attention to value that much. What I collect has changed quite a bit over the years though. Started off in the early 90's with just some odds and ends stuff, then moved into the mid 90's with Star Wars and the return of the Transformers line. In the late 90's I kept up with Transformers and was heavy into Marvel superhero figures and a few Star Wars figures here and there. As we entered 2000's I got out of the superhero stuff and started concentrating entirely on Transformers, other giant robots, and all of the japanese toys I can afford, this is probably where I'll remain.
Other than that it's comics and video games that I collect (actually collect since I don't sell anything, I still have most of the toys, comics, and video games from my childhood, or atleast the ones that actually survived my childhood...).

I collect figurines, models, shitajiki, and cels. I'm not about to spend a truckload of money on any of the above though. It's really just whatever catches my eye. I've always liked the little trinkets that they'll put out for a show, like my Marmalade Boy music box medallion, or an Eva music box or something. Just random stuff that sits on my shelf and looks pretty.
I've never really understood the people that spend thousands of dollars on one item. Yeah, it may be rare... but... eh... you could always buy so much other stuff with that money, IMHO. But to each their own, I guess.
