I don't know if anyone knew about this but it was posted at FUNi's new GXP website.
Here's Funimation's statement on the matter: 03/02/04 --The Original Tenchi Muyo! Dub Cast-- Throughout the past twelve months, many of you asked about the voice actors for the original Tenchi Muyo! Dub. The Tenchi Muyo! gxp dub was produced in California by Red Shift. The producers and director tried very hard on this request. They personally contacted the voice actors for reprising their roles. Unfortunately, many of the voice actors were contacted but declined the offer for reprising their role. Ryo-Ohki - Debi Derryberry; Contacted but declined. She is now voicing Jimmy Neutron Washu Hakubi - Unable to find KT Vogt Tenchi Masaki - Matt Miller was willing to perform the role but was not available until some time in 2004. (production began in August 03 and wrapped in December 03) Sasami Jurai - Katie Ashley or Sherry Lynn; Contacted but declined Kastuhito Masaki - Bob Papenbrook; Contacted but declined Ryoko Hakubi - Unable to find Petrea Burchard Ayeka Jurai - Jennifer Darling ; Contacted but declined Mihoshi Kuramitsu; Rebecca Forstadt has been cast Azusa Jurai; Unable to find John DeMita". "Washu Hakubi - Unable to find KT Vogt." "Ryoko Hakubi - Unable to find Petrea Burchard" Oh Yeah? Funny this. Each and every one who was involved with the Pioneer Dub of the OVA's is listed with the Screen Actors Guild, and a few others as well. I myself informed FUNi of that fact no less than twice. Last time was in June of last year. Long before the dubbing allegedly started in August. "Mihoshi Kuramitsu; Rebecca Forstadt has been cast" "Kastuhito Masaki - Bob Papenbrook; Contacted but declined". Ellen Gerstell was the VA for Mihoshi in the OVA's, as well as Tenchi Universe-TV. Jay Hopper was Yousho/Katsuhito, and Nobuyuki in the OVA's. Rebecca Forstadt, and Bob Papenbrook were only signed for "Tenchi in Tokyo" the last TV series, and considered the worst of the lot, (so far). Not because of their VA work I will add, but because of the overall look and feel of the animation and the dreadful story plot. To me this whole statement from them smells like last weeks fish dinner. Anyone at ANN ever heard of this "Red Shift" lot? Or who might be able to contact any of the VA's who allegedly "declined" to find out why? There's some "funny" duckin and diving going on here. I can smell it. ![]() |

Eh, I can easily believe that FUNimation tried in good faith to get the original cast, but, for various reasons, most of them weren't available or weren't interested. Remember that it has been going on five years since they last worked together (for Tenchi Forever), and some of them have moved on to bigger and better things, or have just given up voice acting in general. It would be nice if FUNi could convince them all to come back for the 3rd OVA series (which I'm not expecting for a while), but, if not, it's not the end of the world. I'm not going on my blog to write petulant, whiny 4000 word tirades against Gen Fukunaga because he couldn't reunite the cast...
I'm more concerned, based on FUNi's track record for distribution, that I won't be able to get the Tenchi Muyo GXP DVDs anywhere at all in Montreal, and I can't order online right now. Though, the way things are going for me, it might be moot even if they did show up on store shelves here since I wouldn't be able to afford them (and, in all honesty, between starting GXP or continuing to collect Super GALS!, I'm more interested in the GALS! I don't know if I've grown out of Tenchi Muyo! or if it's just my financial situation, or maybe the lack of Kiyone, but I just can't get too excited about the release of GXP.). |

"Washu Hakubi - Unable to find KT Vogt."
Aww there was my reason for watching the dub. I loved her voice (both speaking and singing). I remember finding a website about her life and work and I know she did something with planning parts of the Princess Mononoke dub (I think it was the song the women sing while working) and she also did background voices in that movie so it's not like she's fallen off the face of the earth since Tenchi. Oh well, I'll just stick to the subs I guess. (It's not that I don't dislike dubs, I'm just used to the characters the way they are/were especially since Tenchi was one of the animes that got me into the genre) |

Meh, I have good faith in FUNi's ability to atleast try to match up the voices of the new cast to that of the old one. It's not as if they're intentionally trying to screw the fans over, they've obviously done the best that can be done to get the proper actors.

![]() So what if FUNi get the third Tenchi OVA then? Tenchi are you saying a different voice crew wouldn't bother you then? Maybe yes if your a "subs only" type person but if you loved the dub like myself and I'm willing to bet a few others as well, then it would be a huge disappointment. FUNi say they tried, Some of the actors say they haven't. For what gain would the actors have to lie about this? |

The problem with your statement is that it's all hearsay. We've got the "official" word from Funi at this point. Unless it's a matter of public record, we really don't know what the VA's responses were in terms of being contacted. And if they weren't contacted with an offer (which would have been a contract for work) Funi's statement is a matter of public record - then there would be grounds for a lawsuit. Regardless of all that however, it doesn't really matter. This is the way things are right now. Perhaps the VA's could/should come out publically and make a statement?

Site's working just fine... and although I admit that it smells fishy, I've had more than my fair share of things that seemed wrong like that that turned out to be merely nothing more than my own misgivings.

I don't know why it's not loading for you... on a tech side, I'd start by suggesting that you clear out your web cache and possibly delete your cookies. Beyond that, I have to shrug my shoulders. I would suggest trying to ping the site and see what comes up.... it could be that your ISP may be having routing problems.
As far as putting it to the test, by all means, please do so. Although it does feel like something is wrong, I'm just saying that it's hearsay because we aren't hearing directly from the parties involved. That's not to say that it isn't true, but I'd rather hear it from the horse's mouth. ![]() |

Why is it that only the movie quote related to "steers and queers" comes to mind?
On a diff note, because I'm in New Mexico, that may be why it's easier to come up. Which means it probably is a routing issue. |
