Surprised Blood did so poorly there. [Well ok, that's not a bad PTA, but I figured there was a bigger fanbase for the series, considering all the spin-offs it's gotten over there...] Maybe the Korean Wave only appealed to middle-aged women? My real guess, though, is that VK ended up being more popular than Blood, and that a LA movie of it would probably be more successful.

So per screen averages:
Rookies: $29681.72
Detective Conan: $1353.28
Blood: $1449.83

Looking at it that way, Blood didn't do too terribly, though apparently the movie itself is terrible. Theaters weren't packed (movie tickets are expensive in Japan) but they were in no way empty.

That's not too terribly? $1449.83/theater in a weekend? Let's be generous and say tickets are only $10, that's only around 150 people. Per theater. Over the whole weekend.

That's a shame, I was really looking forward to Blood.

Read Rotten Tomatoes' Box Office wrap-ups... that's really not as unusual as you'd think. It's not a particularly good showing, but the market for theatrical movies is smaller in Japan because tickets are so expensive. Not to mention that this movie looks like complete crap, it's amazing it did as well as it did at all.

At the very least, I am glad the Den-O movie has fallen out of the top ten.

Except that Conan is in its 7th weekend. Blood opened just now.
So..yeah.
