So a few years ago I heard about Sony teaming up with Comcast to launch Animax, AXN, and Sony Entertainment TV here in the states. Is that still happening? I know these things take a long time, but it seems strange that there hasn't been any word at all.

There are still plans, I think, but of course Animax hasn't launched in North America yet. We're still waiting, but the plans were not dropped or anything of the sort. Do correct me if I'm wrong in any of that.

I don't mean to sound clueless, but what is Animax? Its a channel, but like what does it do? What anime does it show?

it's an all anime 24/7 channel based in Japan. It varies depending on country, but most often it shows anime from parent company Sony and TV Tokyo.

I have Animax (I am from Portugal, we share it with Spain) and it is a pretty decent channel.
It doesn't exactly broadcast the new, hip animes you could expect, or the underground ones, actually, here you have got some pretty good classics above everything else, and some fairly recent series as well (Chobits, Lupin III, Case Closed, Love Hina, Nana, Excel Saga, Tsubasa Chronicles, Le Chevalier D'Eon, Devil May Cry, Peach Girl, etc). I'd say that it is the best cable channel I have. Razz

Oh cool! So they have classic series! I love Chobits, Lupin III and Case Closed. (Although I do have all 7DVDs of Chobits) but thats great. Do they have Ranma 1/2, Slayers, Tenchi, Lodoss War and others than came out in the 90s?

Hopefully Animax comes in the US soon. I stated hearing about the rumors in '05, and haven't heard anything since.

Animax has differing program varying from different countries, but from what I've seen in their different websites, they have some really great programming. Think Funimation meets The Anime Network meets Anime Selects + more. Very Happy

Well, we got the channel last April or May (I can't really remember), it is still fairly recent, but I'd say that's likely. Especially since Slayers and Tenchi particularly were two huge hits around here years ago. Wink
