It's lower than AX, but it's still the second largest anime convention in the states.

Just call it the East Coast version of AX. Though only half as big, it gives those on the East Coast the chance to go to a convention without having to fly all the way out here to the West Coast. But, it's nice to know that it's growing.

It was already more than enough as it is. If it came close to AX figures the BCC would just implode.

Basically. I have no idea where else it can go if the attendance keeps on growing.

They could move it to the DC convention center (although that'd probably cost an exorbitant amount of money)

I'm kinda bummed they moved it back into July again, but oh well. Glad to see it's growing, just hope the con can keep up with the growth.

They could move it to Cobo Hall in Detroit, MI.
I was trying to compare specs, and it seems to be bigger than the BCC.
Although, I'm not sure the rest of the city would be up to par for such an event.....

The BCC gets crowded enough as is. I figure 30k is the max that Otakon could handle before it become a serious hazard. Not to mention the streets of Baltimore can't handle that many people either. I dunno how many times I have watched near accidents over the years going to my many Otakons. Of course half of those are due to sheer stupidity from people with no common sense or no idea of how to maneuver in a real city. Still though...it can be a hassle. AX is also one day longer then Otakon so it can draw more people, and being in the largest state in the US certainly does not hurt. Honestly for how small Maryland is I sometimes wonder how the bloody hell Otakon has become so dang big. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this the largest Otakon to date as well? I'm pretty sure it is.

So Japan Expo is the biggest convention outside of Asia at least? 130,000 Attendees in 2008. It's quite impressing for France to have a bigger convention than the US, kind of unexpected oO

My head is imploding due to the fact that Otakon will be exactly 2 weeks after AX next year.
That's nuts! Especially because I've been attending both conventions this year and last year.

This is not really unexpected at all. France is a much smaller country than the US so probably everyone in France goes to that one convention.
However in the US there are conventions all over the country. Some people will go to a convention far away but most people stick to a convention that is in a state a little closer to home.

Economy's down, but not the otaku, huh? Kind of heartening, I think.
I don't understand why they'd squeeze Otakon between AX and SDCC again. That just makes it annoying as hell for people trying to go to all three. Fly to Cali, then to Maryland, then back again? With airlines doing all the crazy shit they are now? Come on! what were they thinking??

While AX is always about the date and will change the location to get the July 4th weekend. Otakon is all about the location. That weekend in July was probably the only time the Baltimore Convention Center was available in July-August.
