Just wanted to chime in with my backstory on this anime.
I'm really grateful to ANN that they're streaming this series. It's bringing back so many memories of my childhood. Although this series aired in Japan in 1977, it was shown on TV in Mexico back in 1983 at a time when I was living there and was about 7 years old. So this is literally one of the first if not the first anime I ever saw. Scenes like the ED and spoiler[Vitalis's death] while saving Remi are some of my earliest childhood memories. The multi-layer animation sticks out in my mind as well. Re-watching it has been a reminder of how awesome it was and still is and also how they really absolutely don't make these kind of animes anymore. To say that this series is traumatic is an understatement but I would gladly show it to my kid anytime. |

I'm unaware of anything wrong with this episode, but I'm out of town and can't fix it right now anyway. Did you try the LQ mode, in the mean time?

I just checked Justin, and I wasn't able to get episode 44 to play on 480p (it would play the commercial then stop, and if you hit play again another commercial, etc) but I was able to get it to play at 360p. So I think putting it in LQ is a temporary fix.

Hm, never even occurred to me to try that... I'll be damned, thanks Justin.

I had the same problem with episode 50 so I used a different browser to watch the episodes and it worked fine.

Thank you so much for uploading this series. It was fantastic from beginning to end. If you couldn't tell by my avatar, I love this series now.
It's just too bad you can't find it on DVD in North America anymore... |

I really recommend the book if you want to get even further into the story! The anime and book are surprisingly close though. (the anime will sometimes flesh out quite a bit) The other difference is that the book is told as a first person story by Remi (so we only know what Remi knows) while the anime and its third person narrator give more flexibility to the scenes and story sequences. In any case, the book is a classic and it was a very easy read. Best of all it's in the public domain and so freely available. I read it on my iPhone 4 via the iBooks app but it can also be downloaded from the Gutenberg Project in many formats to many other devices. http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/25102 |

I might have to give the book a try sometime, although I'm not much of a reader. I bet I would enjoy it though. |

I'm very glad that I saw this anime. It's a shame DVDs of it aren't being made anymore. I'm putting this in my top 20 anime!
And I wonder if ANN will be so kind as to get the rights from TMS Entertainment to stream their version of the Dog of Flanders (which they called My Patrasche) here on ANN? I would love to see it. |
