Howdy!
I'm thrilled at all the new titles that are beginning these past few months. Here's what I've picked up new and some odd thoughts.
Kill Me, Kiss Me: It's a cute shoujo story. I know it's 5 volumes but volume 1 could stand alone. Wonder where it will go?
Girl Got Game: I like this one. The second volume came out but it only included TWO chapters! Boo hoo!
Psychic Academy: Too much fan service.... If it doesn't stop, I won't keep getting this one.
Sister Red: It was a good start! It's printed on really cheap paper.
I'd love to hear everybody else's recommendations!

Not to sound stupid, but what exactly IS fan service? I never really got a real answer to this.
Anyway, my recommendations that I just got are:
I.N.V.U.- It isn't new, but I just got volume one I love it to pieces, and when I get the money I will get the rest. The story is very cute, and I'm a sucker for shoujo.
Azumanga Daioh- Not that new, but again, new to me I think it is a great manga, and it is very nice to just have a story about kids in junior high/high school (not sure which it is) Just full of comedy that tickles my fancy.
Galaxy Angel- I think this is new, since I only saw volume 1. I love it so much, the cuteness The characters are adorible, and the story seems good.
I can't think of any more because my friend borrowed the rest of my new manga/took while I wasn't looking!

fanservice usually = eye-candy
No point, doesn't add anything to the plot. May even detract from one's enjoyment if there is too much of it to wade through to read the story.

I KNOW!!! I was pretty irked at that one. It was probably heightened that I had just finished reading Forbidden Dance 4 and it did the same thing. Granted it was the last volume, but come on...I like the "special" stories at the end, but not when they take up half the book. Bah.
Girl Got Game is a fun read, though. I like how it is somewhat centered around basketball, but it's more about the relationship and the zany situations Chiharu and Kyo get themselves into.

I didn't mind it all that much. I mean, it was well drawn and not, you know, in poor taste. I'll stick with it. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I kinda enjoyed it. I think Ai Yori Aoshi suffers from worse fan service than Psychic Academy.
I'll add Eerie Queerie and Saiyuki. Eerie Queerie is one of my new faves. I just wonder why they didn't stick with "Ghost" and changed the title, but anyway, the story is really funny! Shounen-ai? It is...but I barely noticed it. I just feel so bad for Mitsuo and how he gets trapped in those awkward situations!
Saiyuki, never seen the series, but this first volume wasn't bad. The art is nice and so far, the character introductions are fairly interesting. We'll see what volume 2 is like.

Recently I got the first two volumes of Ai Yori Aoshi.
It's pretty good, really romantic and turned out much better than I thought.
I didn't buy, but checked out Eerie Queerie!.
It's nice, at first I thought this wasn't worth reading. The only reason I took a look is becaus it's got a very unique story. Two ghosts take over one boy's body? This one really surprised me. The first volume is really good. I usually don't enjoy Yaoi, (if I can call it that. please correct me if I'm wrong ).

New Manga I have started...
Pita-Ten: Great series, cute story and gorgous artwork.
Azumanga Daioh: no explaination needed
Steel Angel Kurumi: Interesting, liked the series so I'm getting this
Ai Yori Yoshi: see above
I really recommend Pita-Ten.

I love Eerie Queerie! It's just so cute, and since FAKE and Demon Diary are ending in the next month or so, it keeps me happy.
The one book I didn't think I'd like was Les Bijoux. While it didn't bowl me over, the concept is interesting enough to get me wanting more.

Les Bijoux...
I flipped through that and it looked so similar in style to Under the Glass Moon, it just didn't scream "buy me! read me!"

i also have been reading Ai Yori Aoshi and i feel that they could have done alot better. the story is pretty good its just the random nudity makes me lose some respect and takes away from the story.
i also picked up SGT frog after reading the first few chapters. i was surprised i didn't expect it to be that good.

I just stayed up all night reading a manga called Love Monster, and omg, it's been a long time since a manga had me laughing so much. It's so cute, and ... funny in messed up ways that I just love it. Sadly it have little bits of ecchiness that manga companies here haven't quite gotten used to, so a north american release looks far off.

How is it compared to the anime, the anime went off on a tangent after the first few episodes and I stopped buying it - is the manga more true to the romantic story line?
As for stuff that I've picked up - two more Ah! My Goddess mangas, Sandland, and Love Hina volume 11. I'll looking at starting a new series when I finish Love Hina, but nothing is peaking my interest that much.

The manga and the anime are just about the same. The manga is more fan-servicey than the anime.

Ai Yori Aoshi isn't really that bad in the fan service dept. There are far worse offenders.
In any case, it's a sweet romance that isn't affected by it that much any. It gets a recommendation from me.

I concur with what's been said about Azumanga Daioh so far - light-hearted, goofy fun. Meanwhile, one recent I've been digging on is Planetes. If you've not heard about it, it's a really laid-back title about a team of astronauts whose job it is to clear debris from Earth orbit. It's a great title for sci-fi fans - I get a big Arthur C. Clarke vibe off of it, except without the weird, heady stuff. Or like Cowboy Bebop, except minus the bounty hunting - very episodic flow. I'd happily suggest it to anyone.

Yeah, Planetes is really good and really different. It's a sci-fi in space with NO MECHA. How original! Ha ha
