Did anyone here attend Otakon? Or rather, does anyone attend Otakon? We've gone for four years now.

I went in 2000. A few of my friends go every year, but circumstances wouldn't let us go this year.

I've gone every year since 1999... but I might not go next year -- I'm looking at studying abroad in Japan over the summer. If I'm in Japan, it'd be hard to fly out to Baltimore for a weekend.. If I'm not in Japan in the summer, then I'll probably be able to attend next year. As it is, my plans are *REALLY* up in the air right now.. ^^; |

I went in 2001. My first major con, too. I was a little.... overwhelmed. I planned to go this year, but couldn't get the time off from work :(

Okay here is where I show my newbie colors, uh heh what is that I get that it's a convention and most likely anime since well, duh that's what this place is for, but when is it held? I've never been to a convention before, what's it like?
Just wondering, doesn't "otaku" mean slave in Japanese? Does that have any relevance to this at all? |

It's in Baltimore, MD. http://www.otakon.com is the website And otaku technically means "house/geek" It's not a nice term in Japan. |

I went to Otakon for the first time this year! I've been trying to make it for a few years now, but I got a brand new car last fall so I finally had no excuses not to go. I got to meet with a fellow mod from psotakus.com who also helped direct the fan parody This Is Otakudom along with a few members of the Otakudom cast including Scott Meltzer who I met at Portcon back in April. (If you haven't yet then make every attempt to watch Otakudom if it shows at a con near you!) watched the AMV pannel and cought the first showing of this years AMV entries (saw it again later) Made a killing at the dealers room, had fun at Nazi Nani Megatokyo Live! and generally had a great time! Looking forward to making the trip again next year even though I put 1200 miles on my car during the 24 hour round trip.

Hey, for those of you who did cosplay, how about going to this site: http://www.fansview.com/2002/otakon/otpics.htm and see if you can find a pic of yourself to share with the rest of us, they got a pic of just about everyone that was in costume this year!
