No spoilers, please. All I really want to know is, how good are these manga? Good enough to buy? It doesn't really matter what you say, because I'm getting them anyway, but the series are: Pokemon: The Electric Tale Of Pikachu and the NGE manga. So, on a scale of 1-10, or good, very good, excellent, bad, etc., rate them - how good are they as manga, how faithful to the storyline of the anime (both were based on the anime, right?), and how good are they for fans of their series?

Pokemon-

The Shounen version of Pokemon is based on the games. I like the artwork in it. I wish that it didn't have the American-ized names in it. It's also flipped, but it still looks really good, much like the Tenchi manga. 8/10

If you're talking about Magical Journey Pokemon, a Shoujo Pokemon series, I don't think it has much to do with the anime, though the setting is the same. Once again, flipped, like all of VIZ's old titles, but, once again, it still looks good. 7/10

Neon Genesis Evangelion-

With this title, you can choose whether you want the regular Edition (Flipped) or the Collector's Edition (Unflipped). Story remains the same, but the unflipped has unaltered artwork (No translater sound effects!). There isn't much dialogue as I felt there should be, but I guess that's because I don't really care for Action manga... Anyways, if you want the old versions, I would hurry; VIZ is rereleasing them next month, and I don't think that there's a flipped edition coming out. 7/10

Hope it helped... ^^;

Also...not really helpful, but still to give you a bit of an idea. Here are the ratings for Neon Genesis Evangelion.

The Pokemon one kind of follows the story line if I recall correctly, I read that a year or so ago. But, it was pretty good, and I think it's about three mangas long. I liked the manga better then the series.

There's 4 Pokemon volumes. Although they do visit some of the same places/events/people (Cerulean City, the Clefairy & the moon stone, Ritchie) I would have to say that it does not follow the anime. People's personalities are different, Ash has some different pokemon, and things in general just happen differently. Regardless, I enjoyed it. Just don't expect it to follow the anime.

Thanks, Koenma, that was pretty helpful, but how soon until Viz rereleases the NGE manga (is it sometime in April, as then I'll be able to order it before then), and what will it be like after they release it? Flipped? No more collector's edition? Better? Worse?

Also, about the original sound effects, these are good, right? Are they easily understandable, like in a western comic, you might see "BOOM", and you immediately know it's an explosion. Are the original sound effects so easily flowing in with the manga? I've seen sound effect dictionaries, so I'm curious.

Not quite sure about the newer versions of Neon Genesis Evangelion. If memory serves, it will be in it's original left to right format. I think this is better than the flipped kind. It's cheaper than the original collector's edition currently available. The sound effects are in Japanese if it's understandable. If not they'll have a dictionary in the back of the volume. It usually is as you said, easy flowing.
