Ok, I hope this isn't old news to you guys. It comes from the Macross Panel at Anime Expo 2002 and here's the pertinent facts. The preview footage that was shown at Anime Expo was the first time a trailer/teaser for Macross Zero was shown worldwide.
1. It will be a 5-episode OAV, with each episode running for 30 minutes approximately. 2. Release date (in Japan): October 25th, 2002. 3. Story Concept and mechanical design will be, as usual, by Shoji Kawamori, the script will be written by Hiroshi Ohnogi, character design by Takuya Saito, while special technical director will be Ichiroh Itano. http://macross.anime.net/production/animation_live_action/zero/index.html 4. It is a prequel to the original series, taking place 1 or 2 years before the original events. 5. Shoji Kawamori hinted that there will be a cameo appearance by one of the original characters. 6. The story, according to Kawamori, is one that the military would rather not disclose and the characters of the original series have no idea of it whatsoever. It is actually an undisclosed story on the VF development. 7. Place: The South Pacific. NOT South Ataria Island (the ASS-1's - later christened Macross - crash site). Actually, its name is Mia. http://www.anime.net/macross/story/atlas/universe/milky_way/orion_arm/sol/earth/oceania/mia/ 8. One of the fighters seen in Macross Zero will be an F-14, as well as a two-seater variable (?) craft resembling the Tomcat even more than the VF-1 Valkyrie. 9. The singing star theme seen in all Macross instalments will continue. This time, the star will be a young girl of a South Pacific tribe, who is also somewhat of a shaman. 10. No, the SW-XA1 from the VF-Experiment feature won't appear in Macross Zero. 11. The two-page spread in Newtype magazine can be seen here: http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/news/news51_newtype_vf0.JPG 12. Here's the translation of the Newtype text, as provided by MW's MrSpacey:
Unfortunately, the text beyond that point was not legible. 13. Hasegawa has a Macross Zero line in the works: Namely, the MiG-29 Fulcrum (which, I fear, will be the old mold from the late '80s) and the F-14 Tomcat. 14.
