Kare Kano and Soultaker were both very artistically focused, though much of it had no direct connection to the story.

I like both of them a great deal for that reason. It was more interesting to watch.

FLCL another artistically focused series. When GAINAX and Production I.G work together chances are the art is going to be excellent and have a great story line.

Vampire Hunter D:Bloodlust would have been just another movie if it hadn't been for Yoshitaka Amano's amazingly pretty and unique character designs, or Kawajiri's attention to detail and incredible sense of timing and delivery.

Charlotte's abduction in the opening sequence, where Meier Link's carriage is rumbling through the streets causing fountains to freeze, crosses to contort, and flowers to wilt is enough on its own to impress any fan of anime.

I do agree that the artwork of .Hack//Sign made up for an otherwise mediocre series.

Utena. That series and movie was all about art. Damn, how I wish they could make a remake of the series or something with more updated animation... ok, enough about my dreams there.

Angel's Egg. For a movie that didn't really have more then 5 lines of dialouge, it still ended up being a great movie... even if some disagree. The art and presentation of that movie just stunned me.

Witch Hunter Robin. I think the dark, non-big eyed anime feel they did was perfect for the series.

X. Movie and tv series. Madhouse outdid themselves with these animated versions of the amazing manga, which made up big time for the horrible story in the movie.

oh yeah, X

That would definately been a very difficult series to watch without the fabulous animation to entertain you during otherwise possibly corny dialogues

Macross. Especially the OVA's. But even the original TV series was amazingly detailed for it's day.

Bebop. Sorry to bring up the crowd favorite, but it's true. Bebop has some of the best urban set animations ever. The were hardcore-detailed, and vibrant where many shows just use a drab background. Combined with fight choreography that puts most combat anime to shame, Bebop is all up ons the visual style.

Anything by Miyazaki. Even with bad artwork, Miyazaki's storylines would make them good movies. The fact that Mononoke, Kiki's Delivery, Caliogstro, Spirited Away, etc. are some of the best drawn features evAr makes them amazing. The art definately adds to the whole experience.

Oh and another vote for Utena. Very Happy Though I suppose it would have killed them to animate another "Utena enters the dueling platform" sequence. Sad

I thought Gad-Guard had a fabulous Bebop-esque background animation, and was the one reason that I watched that series to begin with. I am not a fan of pet-robot anime, but the murky, highly detailed backgrounds helped sell the animation as a whole to me.

I've only seen a couple eps, but Hundred Stories *I think that's what it's called, the horror anime* has a really neat and distintive animation style. I think it puts a lot into the atmosphere of the stories, and makes it even more fun to watch.
