alright guys, this is something i don't understand quite well. to some this anime be maybe a little too "overrated". to a degree i may agree to that (since they do quite well on the merchandising). but sometimes i can't help to feel that this anime isn't getting much love from the hardcore anime fans for some reason. for example i always hear people bashing on it when reviewing the anime. i know the show is a bit dragged and indeed they did have tons of fillers but i can't help but to be overly annoyed by that. i don't think many animes can top Naruto especially when the developers get back on point with the storyline. from ep 1 to ep 140 all episodes were great. and many battle scenes were classics.
personally a anime like Naruto storyline needs to begin at the end, in order to create such a storyline. theres so much to each characters. each battles are set up perfectly too spoiler[ (how gaara can beat lee, naruto can beat gaara, lee beat naruto) (jiraiya fears orochi, itachi fears jiraiya, orochi fears itachi) lol. but the storyline is great, and it keeps you pondering how everything connects and just keeps you guessing. (as to date, is Pein related to Naruto? is Tobi really Madara or Obito? and such).] sorry but i just been reading alotta reviews lately and their negative comments on the anime just doesn't really... make sense to me. i mean its an epic anime, of course its gonna be dragged. just like how Pokemon, One Piece and whatever else 100+ eps was drag. You forget that Naruto is also incredibly corny. spoiler[It takes episodes to explain how Naruto and Sasuke are best friends?! Wow, we don't even have to mention the "MY NINDO!" stuff or the romance...]
An epic needs to be filled with EPIC stuff, Naruto is a fighting anime, not an epic for one, and it's not even filled with fighting. Naruto certainly is on the action-lacking side of action anime. I mean, with staredowns, long explanations of every tiny technique, longer still trash talking, and even longer mental planning, which for some reason we have to hear every tidbit of, taking most of the fighting time, you're not left with much. I personally also don't see what is appealing about the core story. Yah ninja villages...etc, but the core plotline boils down to spoiler[secret org needs an especially talented kid, while some other villain needs the other kid, and the two kids happen to be connected] and it took what, 2 years just to get that much out the door... |

Everyone here should know by now that Naruto is my favorite series (mainly the manga), but I've learned to hang back and let bad reviews go. It's going to happen, a lot of people don't appreciate the show. I've actually taken a break from the anime right now in order to get away from that annoying fandom -- which has earned a specific name we all know by know -- and I say it's annoying in that I refuse to be grouped with them. I have more to say on this but I would rather not start a rant.
I felt it was the opposite. A lot of the so-called "hardcore" fans are what kill the series.
You might want to edit your post and spoiler tag this, seriously. We're talking about this in the manga thread.
In your opinion. See, that's what I mean. |

if you wait weekly for it i supposed you would be piss cause it does infact take up 4 episodes for one fight to finish haha. but i usually wait a good 15 episodes to be release before i start watching (you just need other things to watch in the meantime). if you can't do that then it does indeed suck. theres also alotta flashbacks which might piss people off. but overall i don't see how anyone can complain about eps 1-140 (or the new shippuuden ones) and for your spoiler thing you hidden... theres much more than just that. |

Well, if you're wondering about epic plots...*mumbles incoherent spoilers*
Hm, but I remember it being considered one of the best anime for fight scenes, wasn't it? And you have to consider that they not actually staring people down for five minutes (it's more like a few seconds which are poorly translated); that's not happening if you read the manga. Mental planning and strategy is what ninja do and I've never felt the "trash talking" stood out that much -- it's not that bad. Either way, it all comes down to the directing of the show...it's one of those slow at first series, but it picks up speed in the second half.
Speaking of spoilers, you still haven't edited your original post. |

because at a certain time naruto was called the best and had the biggest fan base on internet
and when something is on the top alot of haters starts to appear and its also the same with bleach now look at hunter x hunter because not alot of people know it still keeps its place and if you asked the people who knows it they will say it is the best naruto has a lot of haters now because it was on the top if Gurren Lagann was a long series like naruto after some time what happens with naruto will happen to it |

You need to clean that grammar up there, friend, if you want to be taken seriously around here. We do actually have standards. That aside, the first part of your statement I have bold-faced is not accurate. Naruto certainly did (and still does) have one of the biggest fan bases on the Internet, but hardly anyone outside of the hard-core Naruto fans ever called it "the best" - and most anime fans don't take hard-core Naruto fans seriously because they have had a tendency to be obsessive to the point of being narrow-minded. The second part I have bold-faced is a classic example of the "narrow-minded" trait I just mentioned and a prime contributor to why "Narutards" are derogatorily called what they are. Just because the average fan doesn't agree it's the best thing ever doesn't mean they're "hating" on it. If you compare Naruto to the vast field of other series out there then its merits don't hold up quite so well. It has good action and lots of clever fighting tricks but is hardly alone in that, and definitely falls into the standard shonen pattern of lengthy training sequences, dragged-out fights, staredowns, and elaborate power-up sequences intended to stretch content out to disguise a fairly basic plot. (So does Bleach, BTW, just with a different setting and power structure gimmick.) The characters are interesting but fairly straightforward, and there is nothing elaborate about its plotting or writing. I continue to watch the series because it has spirit and every so often puts that together with the action to create some truly great episodes, but on consistent quality I would give it a B grade at best. |

@ ToneQuality: Indeed, you know what's not overrated? Capital letters. And you're missing a lot of them in your posts. "Alotta" is not a word, so please check it and other lazy Internet non-words (including "alot") at the door while you're posting here.

What killed Naruto for me was that there was too much filler of various kinds.
There were the actual filler episodes, then there was all the flashbacks and backstory (good for main characters, but who gives a damn about the motivations of some generic villan who will only be around for a couple episodes.) Then like was already said, there was a ton of staredowns, explanation of techniques, etc. |

I don't agree those episodes were great, I was annoyed by episodes about the pursuit of Sasuke. There were too much flashbacks and some episodes looked like one big flashback The fact that Naruto episodes, whan we were supposed to see the fight, looked like that don't halp: Naruto said something The foe said something a close-up of Naruto face a close-up of the foe face a close-up of the team face The foe back story and explanation of why he has to defeat the team a close-up of Naruto face a close-up of the team face Naruto said something a close-up of the foe face a close-up of Naruto face a close-up of the team face The foe use his jutsu Naruto avoided the foe jutsu The team: Yippee! a close-up of Naruto face a close-up of the team face Naruto throw shuriken at the foe a close-up of Naruto face a close-up of the team face a close-up of the foe face The end of the episode I don't consider Naruto as the worst anime I have watched. It was even enjoyable to a certain extent. |

I just have to say that I too have watched most of Naruto, quit after the 1st filler arc but glad I atleast watched the part that has to do with Sakura. The tried to watch Shippuden, but felt I was re-watching the 1st arc so I quit.
Why did I watch though? Because it's something I could watch while doing other stuff. By no means is this series good overall. Those few beautifully animated (depends on viewer) fight scenes do not make up for all the dragging the anime does. "Mindless Fun" can easily describe this show. Yeah there are politics involved, but its so dumbed down that George Bush can understand it. Of course everything is opinion and there is a reason Naruto is still around... and that's because people watch the show. Does it mean its good? No. Bad? No. Just that people watch for whatever reason. I mean hell I used to watch DBZ when I was in 5th grade up to 8th grade; and recently I watched the "season one" box. I think DBZ is crap now that I have been exposed to far superior anime (Gankutsuou, Haibane Renmei, Mushishi, Kino's Journey and Last Exile to name a few) yet I still purchased and viewed. And I have no idea if Shippuden stopped the constant flashbacks (more like re-airing entire scenes) and repeating of the exact same new scenes (Gaara using sand X 10), but that proves how stupid for the series many people are that they put up with that sort of bulls**t just because its Naruto. Narutards indeed. |

I guess I just feel like I'm one of the few decent Naruto fans left in the world and that most people don't really listen as to why I (and those other few) believe it's a good series. Everyone lists the same pathetic reasons over and over, which has caused me to take a break from everything but the manga. Honestly, though, I can't just sit back like this and take it like I have been. The bashings have gotten really, really annoying, and the best part is that nobody really proves their point very well, imo. Yes, I'll admit that I like Dragon Ball Z. So? I feel there's nothing wrong with that. I also like a lot of other anime such as Le Chevalier D'Eon and Haibane Renmei. I like them all for different reasons. God, I feel like I'm going to snap over this topic one day.
P.S. EDIT YOUR OPENING POST -- THERE ARE MAJOR SPOILERS!! |

Naruto is the new Shonen-Flavored-big-popular-anime, filling in for the likes of DBZ and Yugioh. Is it a bad title? No- you don't get a fanbase that big without doing something right. But's not a great title either. It's pretty much the same in tone to every other Shonen fighter out there- this one happened to get the other parts "right" enough to rise above the pack.
When a title gets to this level of popularity, it's very hard to judge it by its own merits (putting folks like AG in a tight spot.) The fans, going back and forth about the parts they like, end up de-sensitizing themselves to the series flaws and get that narutard-ish "this ish the best eva!!!" mentality. For those of us who wander in with a level opinion, well.... either you get caught up in the wave, or you're so disgusted by the diehards, you seek out flaws just to shut them up and develop a hatred for the show. (This is why my BF cannot stand Bleach.) It's a shame that, in order to keep from polarizing your additude on popular shows (be it Naruto, Bleach, FMA or Haruhi), you basically have to avoid the fans of said show altogether. What's a causal fan to do? |

sorry my english is bad but i think as long as you get what i say its ok or may you wont take it seriously but that doesnt mean every one i know that it still have a large fanbase but it is not as big as it was i mean many people used to say that it is one of the best and now they say its shit i agree but when people say its crab and shit mean they hate and those what i mean by haters not all the characters are straightforward one of the strongest point in naruto are the characters and plot is good better than something like The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya ofcourse the vast field of other series you are talking about i think i have seen it and naruto merits does hold up quite well but as you said the best part about naruto is its spirit i would give it a A but i dont mean to to disagree with your B or anything its just everyone have their opinion[/quote] |
