Well, to my knowledge they're the same guy working under two different names. Sort of like how Wendee Lee has also done roles under the names Elyse Floyd & Wendee Swan.
However, ANN does list Lucas & Blum as two different people, which is strange. |

I will let someone with more knowledge about the topic go into detail, but I think that it has something to do with how the unions are set up. Voice actors are contracted to do only union work, however to earn more income, they go and do non-union work. They work under an alias so that they don't get in trouble by breaking their contract. ANN used to have Steven Jay Blum and David Lucas listed under the same name, but they separated the two a while back.

As I remember from a much earlier topic, like a year ago, lianncoop is right. One of the names, can't remember which, is his SAG(Screen Actor's Guild for those who don't know) name, and the other is what he uses for non-union work. Almost everyone out there knows cause they recognize the voice, but the being of Lucas/Blum has yet to officially acknowledge that both those people are really the same person, much like Superman/Clark Kent.
As such, ANN decided to keep the two names separate until a time that he decides to officially announce the oneness of Lucas/Blum, and I seem to recall something about him requesting this separation too, but I could be wrong. They have decided to do the same with other VA's, but wouldn't tell who, since that in itself would tell everyone who reads the site who the VA's evil dopplegangers are. |

If anyone requests that a name be separated (either by accident or design) from another, then we will honor that request.. if for no other reason than it may have been an accident (provided, of course, we can prove that they are, in fact, one of the two parties accidentally merged) People say they "know" David and Steve are the same person. However, I've never seen compelling evidence that says they must be the same -- Note that Michael Jackson was on the Simpsons, but although it sounds like him singing, it really wasn't. People can have similar voices. That doesn't mean that they are the same person. i'll reserve my opinion in the matter, however. |

or you could chalk it up to the fact that we're not freaking stupid. yeah it must be quite the amazing coincidence that they would approach a completely different voice actor to do Spike in the Cowboy Bebop movie, and that they sound exactly alike. god, you make it sound like he's the only one that does this. I thought Columbia/Tristar's pressrelease about how they'd gotten the original dub cast back for the Cowboy Beboy movie pretty interesting. Imagine my disapointment when I found out they'd all been replaced by VAs from Digimon.

The problem I have with believing they're two different people is that the letter "Stevid Blucas" sent to JazzMess.com is just such a freaking obvious CYA letter to prevent him from getting in trouble with his union for doing non-union work that I can't even give him... erm... "them" the benefit of the doubt anymore.
