This is one of my fav anime from Studio Gonzo and dubbed by ADV Films which ranks in one of my top 10 anime lists, and I enjoyed this Anime all the way through with only 24 episodes,my only problem is that it starts off kind of slow with the comedy but later gets quite dark, but anyway Chrono Crusade is basically about, taken from the symnosis from the ANN encyclopedia:
"The year is 1928 A.D., the place is New York, U.S.A. the economic prosperity brought forth after the great war also heightened the presence of something far darker and the much more sinister: the demonic sinners. The Magdaline order is an organization that tries to counter this force. Two of it's exorcists are Rosette Christopher and her assistant,Chrono. Both appear out of place in an organization like this, and they are in a quest to find Rosette's missing brother,Joshua. Their relationships, secrets and fates can only be revealed in time.....
anyway,as for Chrono Crusade,I started watching this series back in like late 2005 to mid 2006 by purchasing volume 3 on Dvd,and I was blown away by the Animation,Drama,Action and the the insane plot twist, I love the seriouse drama in this where Rossette would do anything she can to find her brother, and this anime had me shiver in fear in my fingers at times like in Episode 7: Devil and episode 10: Horn Especially during the disturbing scenes of that horn growing out of Joshua's head also,Chrono Crusade had it's quiet friendly moments like in the christmas episode which was my favs, the only problem I have with this anime was that at times they tried too hard to make the comedy seem too funny when this was meant to be a very serious dark anime with a insane plot about devils and Aion wanting to create a new paradise, I don't mind some comedy which works well with action Animes like Yu Yu Hakusho and Ultimate Muscle, but with Chrono Crusade, I don't think so.
as for the voice acting in the English dub from ADV Films, I really have no complaints here, the actors seemed to fit they're roles,at first I was'nt too sure about Greg Ayers as Chrono, but after awhile it really grows onto you, and Hilary Hagg who did Rossette was also pretty good, also screechy at times, but really fits her role.
the final 3 episodes at the ending really gave me a scare and I was really sad at the same time, because Aion was a really true villian who knew how to deceive both Chrono and Rossette, and with Rossette's life slowly ticking away,it had me trimbling, and it was so so sad when both Chrono and Rossette died at the end with only Azmaria left
and with that said, now that I've watched the anime,I'm currently now reading the manga to see how this goes, because once I finish an Anime adaption first, I than go straight to the manga to see if they go in some kind of unique different different, and so, This and Elemental Gelade rank in my current top 10 anime.
also,in conclusion, even those this did'nt really have anything to do with any of the Chrono games from squaresoft,I still enjoyed,it had alot of potential impact,Drama, some well planned action scenes, some comedy moments which I found some of them to be funny, and a great soundtrack from Hikaru Nanase who did the soundtrack to Angel Sanctuary,Galaxy Angel and Zone of the enders. ,and one of the first animes I've seen with a unique plot mixing elements of Christian taking place outside of japan in New York, but of course Chrono Crusade was'nt the first Anime I've seen with a Christian plot, it was an early 80's Anime called Super Book which was when I first saw christian related elements in an Anime. another thing I liked about Chrono Crusade is that it does'nt always go overboard with mindless violence (no offense to fans who enjoy Kickass violence), but yeah, because mindless violent scenes get to the point where it takes away a good flow of a story,I mean sure there are times in anime where I enjoy a character getting stabbed or pierced such as Yu Yu Hakusho or Naruto, but when an Anime such as Elfin Lied involves peoples Heads or other body parts getting insanely cut off, thats what can turn me off of a good story, but yeah,Chrono crusade does'nt always go overboard in the violence department.
who else enjoyed this Anime?

I did, it was amusing to watch and it had everything you could ever want in an anime. I know, at the end when ever she cries and says that she doesn't want to die... SAD
As for dubs, I didn't think Greg Ayers would do well for it either, but Rosette was good.

I enjoyed it but I have to say honestly I like the manga better. I think the plot and scenes are delivered better and in a more fluid manner in the manga. Now visually the anime was pretty nice. I in particular liked how many of the "demons" looked. Especially Aion. For the most part though I felt the side characters were more engaging in the anime then the leads.
I will say though one aspect of the anime I enjoyed over the manga was the ending. I actually liked the sadder ending of the anime where Rosette and Chrono die. I thought them dying, and together, was a more fitting end to the series and it's story. That's just me though and almost everyone I know that's seen it and read the manga prefer the manga ending. Guess I'm just the minority.

It was decent, but definitely not one of my favorites or anything. Especially not with the way it ended. Luckily I didn't pay much for it and got it through one of the holiday sales on ADV's website.

I liked the ending or at least the part after the (pathetic) final battle. I didn't care for the direction the main plot went in the latter portion of the series, but I'm biased because I had read the manga first.

The anime was pretty good, but I prefer the manga. The final battle in the manga was more exciting and was much more apppropriate than the final battle in the anime, IMO. The only thing I liked more about the anime than the manga was the ending, where Chrono and Rosette die together, since it left more of a heart-warming felling than the manga ending. Other than that, I prefer the manga over the anime because it has better plotting and characterization.

I love this series, it just all worked so well I thought. You had the comedy, the drama, terrific atmosphere and a powerful ending. Add to that the addition of authentic period slang to the ADV dub and that only boosts it up more.
It is one of my favorites, however I do have to agree with the criticism regarding the final confrontation, or lack thereof. The anime has a great ending, for better or worse, but the confrontation the series leads up to and that brings about that ending was a serious disappointment. To be honest the confrontation between Chrono and Lerajie in episode 4 was far more epic than the confrontation between Aion and Chrono. The rest of the ending that occurred after it though, despite being sad, was quite powerful and made up for the disappointing final battle.
I actually really liked the dub of this series. Not just for the period slang, which I felt brought a certain level of authenticity to the series, but also for the performances themselves. There's a few minor bit parts or background voices that didn't fit too well, notably the irish cop in one of the first episodes you hear in the background in one scene, but that's really minor. Hilary had the perfect voice for Rosette because she could really pull off the range, she had the comedice sound and the sultry sound and the serious sound all down perfectly. Greg did a fairly good Chrono as well, bringing a proper voice to both his forms. Jessica's Azmaria was also a stand out in the series, sounding like a young girl without actually sounding like she's trying to and adding enough to the voice so it doesn't sound like Generic Girl Voice #3 or something. Jason also performed well as well as Father Remington as well as Laura as Sister Kate. Chris Patton did an average job and Tiffany may have been a bit thick with Satella's accent, although that's arguable as I worked with a german woman at my last job and her accent was pretty thick too.
The OST for the series was also well put together, conveying the atmosphere of each scene perfectly whether the scene is composed of slapstick comedy or dark atmosphere.

I didn't care much for the series. By which, I mean it's my 3rd or 4th least favorite anime ever. I think it's in large part due to Rosette being one of the least effective lead heroines I've ever seen. About 2/3rds of the way in, I was hoping she died. Also, the part at the very end when Aion shows up to fail to assassinate the pope, anticlimactic, and it negates a large sense of the closure that I'd expected an ending to bring.

Well, everyone is entitled to their opinions.
-I just don't think you've seen the kind of crappy animes I've been subjected 2, or else this definitely would not be on your list.

True, I have managed to avoid all but a very few truly bad anime, but even some of them don't invoke the powerful dislike I feel towards this series. Inane plot and crappy animation aren't enough to raise my ire, I tie a lot of importance to likeable characters.

I see. This is a prime example of personal taste.

This anime actually has some pretty good actions. I would say the plot is a bit messy at some point, but it's well consisted of different elements. I don't suggest you watch anything emotional from now on if you dislike the series.

Yeah, I agree with you about the New York 1920's Jazz Slangs like" I'm Jake" and all that stuff especially in the Dvd Extras where Azmaria gives lecture history lessons about the slangs in the 20's.
