I just finished The Demon Ororon and I liked it very much. The series's only 4 volumes long but I was surprised at how well the characters and the story developed. So I'm looking for another relatively short reading, under 7 volumes. I like action/blood/gothic/fantasy/shojo (to a certain extend. I didn't enjoy fruit basket, hot gimmick, absolute boyfriend.)

do u have any suggestions?

While you didn't like Absolute Boyfriend, I think another title by Yuu Watase might suit you, because she has some good short ones out there (Absolute Boyfriend is without doubt her weakest title available in English). Going with you tastes, I'd suggest giving Alice 19th a try, it's only 7 volumes and is a very interesting series, definitely one of Watase's best.

If you don't mind shounen-ai, then CLAMP's Tokyo Babylon is another good 7 volume series (it is seven vols, right? My copy of it is packed away right now).

thank u for ur recommandation. i read Alice 19th last year. it was okay, i like Watase's art but i'm not really a Watase fan. I have read some of her other work including Ceres, Imadoki, and first 5 volume of Fushigi Yugi.

I would recommend Paradise Kiss by Ai Yazawa, with only 5 volumes in the series. It is an excellent story that strong character development over such a short period.

I would also recommend Full Moon wo Sagashite by Arina Tanemura. While on the board with 7 volumes I felt it is an emotional roller coaster that keeps you wondering how everything will turn out. It also takes the concept of Shinigami and puts a rather cute twist on them, by giving them animal forms.

Suki by Clamp. Probably one of my favorite Clamp works, the art is wonderful, like always, and it has a very heartwarming story.

Wish by CLAMP only has four volumes. Akira is a seven volume series full of blood (and gore, horror, and all manner of other nasty emotionally-scarring things for that matter). I don't really know what to call Adachi's Short Program, but it's two volumes and worth checking out.

EDIT: I said seven; there are only six volumes of Akira. It still feels like seven to me, sorry... Shocked

I'm not much of a Yuu Watase fan either (not to say she's bad, I enjoyed Alice 19th and Imadoki, but I think she's overrated)

I think you might enjoy Azumanga Daioh, which is a 4-koma (comic-strip panel) comedy series. It's only 4 volumes, but hilarious and will leave you wanting more.

I second Paradise Kiss, it's a really beautiful and developed story.

You might also like Life...I'm not sure how long it is, but it shows the harsher reality of high school and self-injuring. It's overdramatic at times, though ^^;

Yes, it's seven volumes. I recommend it too. It's one of my all time favorites.

Anne Freaks is an excellent four-volume series in my opinion. One of the best series I've ever read. It's got some great art, and it's got a very dark, intriguing story with a little romance thrown in. Also from the same mangaka is the one-volume Line, which isn't nearly as good as Anne Freaks, but it's still got an intense, fast-paced little story. Both have got plenty of action, and Anne Freaks has quite a bit of blood to go around, so they should suit your tastes. I'd recommend reading Anne Freaks first though, since it's the better of the two. If you end up not liking Anne Freaks, don't worry about reading Line. Both series have a very similar feel.

I might make a suggestion, since the author did state shojo, you could try Angelic Layer, which is only 5 volumes by CLAMP. I liked it, had some good elements to it, and funny/cute.

There's also Magic Knights Rayearth by CLAMP at six volumes. I don't know how you feel about shounen-ai, but I'll mention it since you like shoujo- FAKE is seven volumes. The romance is actually quite excellent, but it's got a legitimate cop drama/comedy plot.

Mostly, I rec Victorian Romance Emma. It is exquisite. The art is to die for and the series both bittersweet and uplifting. Easily the best period manga I've ever read. I believe it's seven volumes, but not more than eight or nine. Three are out here.

I also second DOLL. It is quite good.

Most of my manga are longer than this. Sorry!

Try Happy Hustle High of Rie Takada 5 volumes and Punch from the same author.
That is 3 volumes...

And Meru Puri from Matsuri Hino...that is 4 volumes....according to my opinion they are all very good....

I recommend W Pinch. But it's not a popular manga, so it's quite hard to find.
