A question to the Encyclopedia admins: I'd like to know why this site's encyclopedia labels this title as "Otome wa Onee-sama ni Koishiteru", as I have never heard it referred to by this name. Media Blasters, AnimeOnDVD.com, Japanese DVD sellers, and most importantly, the show itself in its previews call it Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru (which actually fits the English translation of the title in the recent article announcing it among the Media Blaster licences at Anime Expo; "Otome wa Onee-sama ni Koishiteru" trranslates as "The maidens are falling in love with Big Sister"). If the "onee-sama" version is an alternate title or the title of the game the anime is adapted from, that's all well and good, but shouldn't the show's primary title be the one that's not only generally referred to in the industry and the community (with the short title Oto[b]boku[/b)], but the title the show refers to itself by?

The person who submitted the title seems to have translated it from Japanese. But if the show itself refers to it with the "Boku", it should be used instead of the other one without question. I suppose it would be better to hear from the submitter before changing it though.

Because the Japanese title is 乙女はお姉さま[ボク]に恋してる, with ボク (boku) as furigana for お姉さま (o-nee-sama).
It's one of those puns that you can make with furigana. The idea is that you read the meaning as o-nee-sama, while pronouncing it as boku. This mirrors the tension between outward appearance and inner identity of the main character - and I think it's pretty amusing, actually. - abunai |
