21 years since the franchise launched?! Gee whiz, it took them long enough. Street fighter only 4-5 years, MK only took 5.

Personally, I would much rather see another anime production of the King of Fighters series. KoF: Another Day was a real tease because it was so short, plus it included some of the lame characters (in my opinon) from the Maximum Impact series. It would be cool to see Masami Obari do some of the art direction for a potential KoF anime. His work with Fatal Fury was excellent, and his art style would fit the KoF series well. I also have a feeling that the casting for this film isn't gonna be all that great, and the special fx might end up looking cheesy. It'd be interesting to see who they pick to cast as Mai Shiranui. =)

i would rather see anime of KOF too. i don't think they can find many cool real life people for those KoF characters. Cool character design is one of the selling point of kof.

I think we'd all rather see anime versions of these series than the live action versions because there's so much more that you can do with an anime series than a live action series.

Even if they could get the look, there are too many characters for them to come up with a basic story which could sell to audiences who haven't played the game.

It just brings to mind an old saying:
"Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it."
Weren't Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and DOA enough to teach us that fighting games make crap poor movies?! As enjoyable as it might be to watch them, most of the enjoyment comes from laughing at how truly awful the movie is.

The KoF franchise started in 1994, 13 years ago.
Great news, I've been a big fan of the series from the very beginning. However, I don't really expect it to be that good, movies based on games rarely are any good, if ever. Should be fun anyway.

Well personally I hope that the emphasis is placed more on martial arts than on special FX to carry the action. Movies like Ong-Bak and the Protector would be a fitting aspiration for this movie, not so much the Chinese movies which use way too much wires. Also I hope that they cast japanese actors to portray the japanese characters and americans to portray themselves.

Bleu: I agree with you on Streetfighter, but not MK. Still haven't seen DOA, but it wasn't that deep in the first place.

Here's something I can agree with GATSU on. The MK movie proved to be a quality release, it was the sequel that totally brought the movies down. Street Fighter was enjoyable to me, but it wasn't great.

Jean Claude Van Damm can be Terry just like how he was Guile and Rock Howard can be played by Owen Wilson.

Will this come out the same day as Live action Evangelion and DBZ?

There is no way they can find an actress that has the sizeable assets of Mai, short of hiring a porn actress. The DOA movie proved it with it's horrible casting choices of the DOA girls (Devon Aoki as Kasumi? Eh?).
Correction: Mai is the 4th bustiest KOF fighter. Angel & Shermie (92 cm), Vice & Elisabeth (90 cm), and Blue Mary & Mature (88 cm) beat her (87 cm).

Put a Wig on Aya Hirano and she might be good as Mai.

You actually looked it up! Hee hee!
I'm a great fan of KOF as well. I'm sure many of my friends are going to be ecstatic about this!
I'm actually quite interested in seeing Whip in there I love how she moves. There's almost a guarantee that Athena will be in there, being another very popular character other than Mai. But a lot of the KOF characters have backgrounds in the other games. I wonder if it'll be too confusing. They might not touch on anything other than a team of 3 all-out battle. But putting too many characters might be playing towards the fans of the games and be slightly confusing for the casual movie goer. Yet, if this is the goal of the movie, I see nothing wrong with a flood of characters, haha!
