Mine friends keep ragging me because I am a fan of InuYasha and they said its was a chick flick. They are big fans of Naruto,which is odd because both stories are simlar. Both were outcasts and have a bad childhood. Both want to be respective by others and get stronger. Heck,even the relationship between InuYasha and his brother is simlar to a point to the relationship between Itachi and Sasuke. Futhermore,its not like they focused thhat much time on the romances between the main characters. Abeit the only that do InuYasha in the sameness of the episodes unlike Naruto.

mine friends lol.. my opinion is that its hardly the chick flick. while it does contain some romance. its mediocre at best. the bond between kagome and inuyasha spoiler[doesnt go anywhere and stays nearly the same throughout the series. same thing goes for kikyo. sango and miroku doesnt progress too much either]

Oh, you bet it is. I has plenty of girlish moments -- particularly the awkward bouts between Kagome and Inuyasha.

Though you both make valid points about the romance and story line. I would have to say it tends to lean more toward a chick flick than naruto does for a few reasons.
A) though the romance goes the way the spoiler says it is still more prevalent *spelling* and noticeable than it is in naruto. As well all the conflict is branched off that romance between Kagome and InuYasha, where in naruto there is no romance between the main charcters to cause conflict just personality differences and annoyances. B) The main story line gives more for the girls to immagine where the romance can go where again naruto is lacking. C) though there are similatities between the the two animes the drawn difference in age is what makes it more of a chick flick. Though all are about roughly the same age they are drawn to look either younger, as in naruto, or older, as in InuYasha. This is to draw out different plots in the story line be it romance as older teenagers and adults usually have in their relationships or general misbehavior as younger kids usually create. But on your defence it does have the blood and gore that every guy loves and thus is easily ok for any guy to watch safely and not get ridiiculed. Just tell your friends that you watch it for the fighting and conflict between the male charcters and not for the romance as much. Unless your trying to get a girl that likes the show then go into detail about what she watches and give your opinion on who should get together and who should not. |

Nevertheless, it is counter-balanced by the quest to hunt Naraku, collect the Jewel shards, and the battles fought along the way. So, Inuyasha is not 100% chick flick. |

I've always liked Inuyasha but i wouldn't put it down as a masterpiece and neither one of my favorites. And to respond to your question, i wouldn't call The anime a chick flick but it does give the impression. the romance killed it, the relationship between kagome and inuyasha, and it was as much highlighted as everytime Inuyasha had to fight a demon. How Inuyasha and Kagome kept arguing and breaking up over and over was really irritating and i liked Kikyo better than Kagome and inuyasha should have stayed with her.
By the way i don't think these two shows bear any similarities, and sure in both anime the brothers hate each other, but they aim for different goals and they obviously were raised differently. However i do agree with the Stronger part but isn't that concept often used in anime, regardless if it is a chick flick or not. |

Uh, in my opinion which fact, and I don't care what anyone says, a flick is a movie, InuYasha is a series.

It's not really a chick flick. But however, it does feature lovey-dovey romantic elements within' some of the scenes. Most of the scenes I've seen involve Inuyasha and Kagome as they are in love.
It's mainly a Shonen anime but it is also watched by girls who dig romance in medias. |

Inuyasha is not a chick flick because 1) it's a series, not a movie, therefore the definition of chick flick is not even applicable to it. 2) Inuyasha is a shounen anime, that is cartoons for boys. It does feature romance but you have to remember that Japan's culture is different than ours and in Japan it is more culturally acceptable for men to enjoy romantic stories than it is in the U.S. That's why they have a thing called harem anime. If Inuyasha counts as a chick flick, then Princess Mononoke should count as one too, which would be an idiotic assumption to make and it shows that your friends are talking out of their ass and have no clue what they're talking about.

Inuyasha is an attempt to appeal to all teenage audiences.
Its Shounen meant to appeal to boys but also includes romace to appeal to girls. |

As the webcomic VG cats once said....
"ITS DBZ FOR GIRLS!" BUT really i think its just an everyfan show. as in every fan can enjoy. It has the action for boys and the romance (although slow and boring in my opinion) for girls. To those who seen ranma 1/2 do you think inuyasha and kagome are nothing more than a remixed akane and ranma? i just always thought this. |

Yeah, I'd say it's about 20% romantic chick flick, 80% cool shonen/fantasy action series. I don't really base whether or not I like a series off of that or not anyways though, so as far as romance goes, I don't mind at all. I actually think that romance in a series helps it be a better series anyways as far as dramatics go. As far as Inuyasha itself goes, I really do like it, but not really that much nonetheless. I actually find it quite boring with the exception of most of the battle sequences and some of the storyline. I do find the love story quite dull, but only because it just doesn't seem to be a very good love story at all. |

It's not shounen. It's not shoujo. It's niether. I know it's a shocking concept for a lot of people on these forums, but not every anime is solidly defined as "for boys" or "for girls." Inu-Yasha is one such show, having a long history of being marketed back to back with Detective Conan in Japan as all-ages, all-inclusive family entertainment. It's a little bit of everything; it has prominent romance, but also a lot of action, comedy, drama, and even some horror elements. Something for girls, something for boys, something for kids, and something for adults. It's a series made for everyone. Simple as that. Just because it has romance doesn't make it "for girls," and just because it has action doesn't make it "for boys." It's for both, period. |

And that's what we can go with. Inuyasha's a fusion show. Same can be said for Weiß Kreuz (I don't buy the Encyclopedia's classification of that show as shoujo 100%. There's action for the guys, bishies for the chicas. You put that together, you have a show that both sexes can enjoy.). |
