I hear Monster is one of the best animes out now. I was wondering when the entire series will be dubbed for English.
And will it be released as one box set or as volumes?

Well, to be dubbed, it will have to be licensed by someone first. Currently, I've not heard anything about anyone picking up the series for North American distribution (I'm assuming you mean an English dub, right?)
Depending on the company, we could see any number of different releases. As long as there are some artboxes at some point (and at least a good set of subtitles), I don't really care who gets it or how they release it.
We can theorize and speculate all we want about who should license and dub it, but for now there's nothing official.

It surprises me that it isnt. With all these obscure titles getting snatched up in its stead, and especially that the manga has been out here for a bit and even more so that there is an American Live Action movie version in the works. How the hell can it not be? Plus it isnt a conventional anime at all, so it has the potential to very accessable.

Well it's 74 episodes long and the Master Keaton (done by the same mangaka) didn't do all that well. Basically it's only has a chance if the movie gets the balls rolling, and since there haven't been any sort news on Movie it's appears my dear Monster will never come stateside......

Not having a confirmed license does not mean the Japanese producers haven't been approached by foreign licensors. The license might still be under negotiation, or (less common but do happens) that the negotiation has broken.

Just like Deltakiral said: the poor sales of Master Keaton can render potential licensors hesitant. Furthermore, its unconventional approach also means less predictable performance in US market.

Moving this to the Anime Forum, as it doesn't have much to do with the Encyclopedia.

Yeah, but I'd see this as doing a lot better than Master Keaton. I loved Master Keaton, but Monster is a lot more accesible, and it seems to already have a fan base.

I never even heard of Master Keaton. It's by the same guy? How was that bought out before Monster. Especially when licensors are already aware of it's popularity?

Because Master Keaton is older (1998) and was made before Monster, which came out in 2004. Crap it's been 3 years already and not even a little rumor on anybody interested?
As for when it will be liscensed I'd be extremely happy if it ever came to be, but I'm pessimistically leaning twards "when hell freezes over".

All I know is that Geneon doesn't have it...
...
It's probably gonna be Viz, but it's gonna be a LONG while...
I would like the show to follow the R2 and French release (meaning like 5 boxsets) given that it'd be a lot less painful in-between the waits...
But, this would only happen if the show makes it on TV or something.
Anyway, it was this long wait that actually prompted me to pick up Keaton in the first place; I enjoyed it a lot, but I'm dying to see this again.

Seriously? Not even in discussion over possible terms of licensing the show?

Hell if were going to wait that long Animeigo might be done with Yawara and then they could release it. But I could see how Viz might pick this up considering how they are releasing the manga currently.

Am I the only person who thinks that this show could work on a HBO or Showtime type of channel? I mean Monster certainly has that feel of a very dark story and it makes more sense to aim this show at an older demographic.
Also I agree this show would make more sense to release it in boxset, I figured around 6 so each box holds 12 episode (Some will have a few more) and that a pretty decent number.

IMO, putting it on HBO or Showtime would further limit Monster's appeal. Mature anime on premium cable channel basically ensures a small audience.

But isn't Monster a small audience type of show? I mean there really isn't anyway that Monster would ever show on [AS] it's just wouldn't work. And I don't think that there any possible way that Monster would air on a Major Network. I mean how would you try to market this show, it's so different compared to most anime, there really isn't any action, and I figured the best way to reach out with this series was try something completely different.

I agree with Deltakiral that Monster would be great on HBO or Showtime. I have no idea why ManSlayer07 would think it would limit its appeal. If Monster could gain a following and generate some buzz on HBO it would really do a lot for the show. Plus, if it's going to be on TV I want to be on a network that wouldn't make edits. Maybe Encore would consider it, they seem to like anime.
