This is NOT a recommendation thread.
Here's how it works.
This is going to be a thread for learning about each other's collections, and possibly discovering some new anime based on what each other says about them.
I do not want this to turn into a recommendation thread though.
The way it works is that we post the thing we are most proud of based on our ANN collections.
Format:
Favorite item:
Why its our favorite:
Secondly, you have to go in to the person's above you ANN collection, and name a thing you envy in their collection, something you give them praise for, and something you dislike.
Format:
Envy of:
Like:
Dislike:
Any reasons as to why you envy, like or dislike anything in their thread is welcomed with open arms.
PLEASE try to not turn this into a flame-fest.
I think this could be kind of fun
I'll start:
My favorite thing in my collection is my Eureka Seven dvd sets. Not necessarily because they are anything special, though the art work is nice on them. But because it is one of my favorite anime of all time.

Sounds like fun!
In your collection, I dislike FLCL because I could never get past the first episode. The anime style is grating and the story, if that's what one can call it, is disorienting. One of these days, I'll try getting through it but I'm glad it's nothing I bought.
Damn. I just killed this thread, didn't I. I don't have an ANN collection. I deleted it by mistake and just never got around to rebuilding it.

Well, the thread is not really killed because now you are the person above me.
I will give this a try.
My favorite item right now is Maria Watches Over Us.
Why it is my favorite:
I like the characters. I especially like the interactions and relationships.
I enjoy the generally relaxed feeling of the show.
I like that it is generally a rather light, and often amusing, show but it also has some intense dramatic moments, especially in the last season.
And, for the person above me (or at least the person who was above me when I started writing this).
Envy of: Nothing really. That is because I already own everything on your list that I care about.
Like: My favorite on that list would be Utawarerumono
Dislike: I do not really dislike anything that I have seen. What I like least would be Princess Mononoke.
That was relatively easy because you have a short list.
My "Seen All" list has 525 entries. That is a bit much for what we are doing here.

My favorite item is my Neon Genesis Evangelion DVD collection - I love the believably-flawed characters, the intelligent and engaging plot, the exciting mecha action, and especially how the shwo deconstructs the characters and plots of the other mecha shows that came before it.
Touma's collection
Like: Patlabor Mobile Police - I love mecha shows, and one that wants to examine how mecha might be used in everyday life, not just in warfare, is rather unique in the realm of mecha anime and sounds like it would be worth my time.
Dislike: Chobits. I can sort of understand why others might like it, but as for myself, I found the characters to be far too stupid for my tastes, especially Chii, who is apparently suppsed to be a super-intelligent robot, I don't like gaping plot holes and mjaor plot inconsistencies, but above all that, I resent that it largely wasted a perfectly good opportunity to examine the morality and ethics of having a relationship with a robot and just had Chii doing cute stuff and saying "chi" for most of the show instead.
