Wow that's quite a long lead-in time to your convention. It must be something really special with over 3 years in the making. I wish you the best of luck with it. I try to attend Anime Detour every year. Are you the guys that put on that convention too?

Does Anime Detour receive enough attendance to really warrant a competitor? Honest question, I've never actually attended Anime Detour myself so just asking.

Anime Detour has a registration cap of 3000, because there is no more room in the hotel due to fire codes. At the rate of growth, Anime Detour should have over 3900 attendees wanting registration, and they have always gotten more per year then projected.
One of the Panels at AD this year is "So you wanna start an Anime Convention" this is a cry for help. Anime Detour doesn't want to be big, but would like to have more conventions around the year for the Twin Cities. Otaku Takeovers official stand when asked about the competition between Anime Detour is as fallows. "We don't want to compete with Anime Detour, just to help Offset the registration for people who do not get to go due to registration Cap. We are offering different types of panels, geared toward the entertainment side, although we will have some educational panels as well. Please feel free to go to both conventions, because we will be at Anime Detour as well in 2008, 2009 and so on." |
