Well, when SNK talked about the "collaboration", I am for real not expected that madlads literally meant THIS of all possible things they could do (some kind of cosmetics - sure, but not the whole ass character, let alone not being season pass DLC either).

No words, just a slow clapping.

SNK is owned by the Saudi government's MiSK foundation, and Ronaldo plays in the Saudi Pro League for Al Nassr (also owned by the government), so the obvious link is there.

But still, putting this egomaniac in the game is beyond cringe.

Yeah, the question "how" is surely not presented here considering the Saudi involvement.

The "how the fudge" aspect still exist though, but after just seeing the news about Shohei Ohtani in Fortnite for literaly zero reasoning (are we really trying to bring MLB fans of all people to the friggin Fortnite?) I barely can surprised by anything, let alone SNK totally know their auditory in LATAM.

I'll be honest, I thought that Ronaldo's inclusion in the game would be only in the form of an NPC or maybe some cosmetic addition, like a shirt or maybe a character skin, I was really doubting SNK would make him a fully playable character. Setting aside all the controversies, I actually find this very amusing, though El Bicho is not the first fighting game character that uses association football as a martial art, there was Roberto Miura from Capcom's Rival Schools. Does this also means that CR7 is the first Portuguese character in a fighting game? That also reminds that, while he's European, Ronaldo has a huge following here in Latin America, though he has also many detractors, but after seeing the reactions across Latin American social media, I'd his inclusion was received mostly positive.
Also, Cristiano is voiced in English by Juan Felipe Sierra, who, if I'm not mistaken, voices Shoto Todoroki and Shuichi Iguchi in My Hero Academia's Latin American Spanish dub. I didn't know he also did English voice acting, though he technically lives in the U.S. He's actually one of the few VAs from Miami that actually does a decent job in MHA's dub.

As a Portuguese individual, I wish I didn't have to see this guy or hear about this guy at every waking hour.

It's a cult. The guy is worshipped as a divinity. Watching TV was Hell during the Kathryn Mayorga case.

Ugh. Why? I didn't like LeBron being in Multiversus, but at least Warner Bros. had a movie to promote, but this? Why is Ronaldo here aside from SNK being owned by the Misk Foundation?

But that actually made sense because he was in the Space Jam sequel.

Well, that is the main point.
Like it said before, Ronaldo is contracted by Al Nassr, Saudi Pro League team that is owned by PIF, Saudi governmental fund currently led by Mohammed bin Salman.
SNK owned by MISk Foundation, NPO created and controlled by the very same Mohammed bin Salman, so it's easy to put 2+2 to see from where it all comes from.

Plus SNK games in particular have the strong audience in Mexico and Brazil since the 90's, along with some LATAM/South America countries - so pulling the guy who's pretty much still one of the biggest faces of football for fanservice can pull a lot of the same fanbase.

I know absolutely nothing about soccer so this doesn't really do anything for me but I guess when you own the company you can do whatever you want so kudos to them I suppose.

This sure is one of the strangest guest characters ever. Not even Mortal Kombat went this far.

I just wish that, if they really had to go down this route, the character would actually look and sound like Cristiano Ronaldo. The FIFA games already did better in the first department 10 years ago.

With him as a base character instead of DLC, this opens up potential licensing issues for the entire game and with how SNK, like Capcom, likes to port their old games for later consoles, it'll be interesting to see if it sticks around for longer than, for example, Bamco's Jump games.

Sure there's the Saudi ownership connections that led to this but of course things can happen between now and years later on either side that might cause problems.

I don't know, maybe they could rework Ronaldo's model and create a new original character, kind of how Nintendo replaced Mike Tyson with Mr. Dream in the NES version of Punch Out! when the deal between Tyson and Nintendo expired.
