Splash Star is so underrated, it is actually much much MUCH better than the first two series but since those are more iconic it gets a bad rap.

This is where the work establishing a secondary cast really bears fruit. Even Saki's cat Korone gets plenty to do, and if I were being hyperbolic gets more screen presence and a better arc than some future cures (and one of the prior cures, to be spicy)

Splash Star is very good. My favorite Precure until Heartcatch.

The theme of Splash Star is kachou fuugetsu. "Flower, bird, wind, moon." It's a saying referring to appreciating nature. Bloom and Egret are flower- and bird-themed, with Michiru and Kaoru, and then Bright and Windy, rounding out the other two.

Most of the incantations from Sailor Moon didn't end with "attack" either? I understand SM was hugely influential, but the fact that the whole genre always gets accused of copying it means shallow comparisons like this elicit eye rolls from magical girl fans. This coming from the reviewer on staff who has most consistently given the genre respect and knows what she's talking about is a surprise.
Nitpicking aside, though, I do agree with a lot of this review, and I'm glad to see Precure continuing to be shared and promoted here on ANN, even when the rest of the wider anime fandom tries to ignore it. Thank you!

Oh hey, it’s that term I learned from Yotsugogurashi! Specifically, from the names of the titular quadruplets — Ichika (一花), Nitori (二鳥), Mifu (三風), and Shizuki (四月).

I was specifically talking about the incantations "Moon Spiral Heart Attack" and "Pink Sugar Heart Attack," which have a similar intonation when it comes to delivery as the Cures' attacks in this series. It wasn't meant to be shallow, just an observation that I interpreted as an homage. I actually really liked that there was a comparison to be made.
