55,500 yen? That price seems like it was chosen on purpose.

I have a hard time justifying the price when the figures aren't articulated or even removable. Saw it on AmiAmi the other day, it's about $318 USD there right now, but that price is going to go way up after April when the tariffs on Japan start.

Yeah, from what I've heard, Mach Go Go Go isn't that well remembered in Japan, despite the original anime having kind of an interesting backstory in regards to its development and that some famous seiyū got their start in that series, I think the series is more known in Japan for it being more popular abroad. It actually kind of surprises me that there isn't a reference to the Speed Racer name, because when Bandai made a Soul of Chogokin figure based on Beast King GoLion, it actually included the Voltron logo.
Though to be fair, I think Mach Go Go Go/Speed Racer actually had some lasting impact in other more popular anime, I remember reading that Char Aznable from the original Mobile Suit Gundam was inspired on the character of Racer X, and the Sunrise anime Future GPX Cyber Formula seems to be inspired a little on Speed Racer and also has a character with a similar backstory to Racer X.

Opening reservations for Mach 5 on March 4 seems like a missed opportunity somehow.

Priced to compensate.

That was the Tamashii Web date, the rest of the country was 3/5 (three fives).
