I don't have a ton of faith in this series, but replacing Reuben Langdon with Johnny Yong Bosch is a pretty baller move.

Ok no that dialogue with Dante was ass. That’s 100% shitty meta Marvel humor. Dante wouldn’t fail to come up with a shitty one liner then joke about how he’s usually good at this and he wouldn’t [expletive] reference Masters of the Universe. I was already extremely worried after Reuben Langdon didn’t come back and my concerns have not been quelled only amplified. I really don’t want to be like this but Devil May Cry is one of my favorite game series of all time and so far all I have seen does not invoke confidence.

The action and Dante's vibe feels accurate...though that's very American Western style Superhero humor.

This is 100% in character. Lest we forget that Dante had to stop mid-fight to beat on his jukebox because it wouldn't work.
The man is a whole dork.

My theory that this is actually Nero's consciousness transported back in time to past Dante's body and trying to act the part so as to not mess up the timeline has yet to be contradicted by what they've put out so far.

People are just desperate to find reasons to hate this, even if they have to make up blatant bullshit like changing the character's entire personality just to make it seem like THEY changed it...which....is even more stupid now that I type it out.
Don't forget it's super trendy and definitely super cool to still hate on Castlevania, even after the most recent season of Nocturne.

Last season of Nocturne had nothing in common with Castlevania except for character names and some designs. Same as the one before that and the one before it.
It's fine to like it as a separate thing. I liked cartoon Isaac as an OC, since only thing he and Isaac Laforeze had in common was their first name. But let's not pretend the cartoon is a good adaptation of the game story.

What an upgrade to the Madhouse anime. That show had a nice pilot and little else on offer. The coked up Ubisoft cartoon is good btw.

I couldn't help but noticed they used almost the exact same joke in Castlevania Nocturne. Only in Castlevania it was "I was going to say something witty but **** it" rather than the character forgetting. So even the Marvel quips are being recycled at this point Do not have very high hopes for this if that's any indication.

This is not Dante. It sounds nothing like him, and the personality is not there at all.

We knew that the recast was happening, but going with the voice actor for Nero? I'd at least like to think that was done for a particular reason. But my guess is that Johnny had a good audition and nobody was too worried about the rest.

I'd argue it's not in-character because Dante would never fail to think up a cheesy joke or one-liner let alone act this self-concious. Unless this is suppose to be a super newbie Dante or a weird meta plot twist like people are suggesting and it's not actually Dante. But for the sake of argument not all cheesiness is inter-changeable so just because Dante makes widecracks in the game doesn't mean adding in self-aware Joss Whedon dialog is fine. Probably not the best scene to use to promote the show at any rate.

According Johnny they wrote Dante with the intent of having him voice the character. He definitely fits the part, especially for DMC3-era Dante.
