Well this news/announcement doesn't surprise me, and it was to be expected. I mean the Johnny's sexual abuse and the Fuji TV scandal fallout over Masashiro Nakai (the former member of SMAP) is causing a major fallout probably for all and any Johnny's boy groups. So yeah, this was to be expected.

Snow Man and SixTONES are still really popular, though. The members are cast in big drama and film productions all the time and they haven't experienced any major "fallouts." KAT-TUN has been around since 2001 and half of the members had already left. They haven't released any new songs recently and the current members are focusing on their solo projects. They probably had been wanting to move on for quite a while. |

We don't know what kind of effect that the Johnny's sex abuse scandal and the Fuji TV scandal that involved Masahiro Nakai's alleged sex assault allegation toward female victims could do in a long run. But any more scandals that involved Johnny Kitagawa or Nakai could still hurt Snow Man and SixTONES in some form of manners. No matter if these 2 groups haven't experienced any major fallout yet, but the cloud from the Johnny's sex abuse scandal and Nakai's alleged sex assault is still out there and could affect the 2 groups indirectly one way or another. Also, don't forget K-Pop is still a major dominant music fandom (including in Japan) despite K-pop having it's own scandals. Although you are correct about KAT-TUN, but I still think the disbandment is probably not a coincidence at the same time Nakai's alleged sex assault and the Fuji TV scandal fallout might have played the role into the disbandment. If that's the case, then we don't know if something bad could happen to Snow Man and SixTONES as a result of that. We'll have to wait and see. |

Hideaki Takizawa (Tackey) oversaw the debuts of Snow Man and SixTONES, not Kitagawa, and the groups haven't been directly involved in scandals. |

It doesn't matter if they're not involved with the scandals, both Snow Man and SixTONES are originally created by the same entertainment that Johnny Kitagawa founded, if you're a boy group created by the company whose founder sexually abused and molested idol boy groups members for decades and that company somehow engaged in covering up the abuse for that long, that stain will not come off of them no matter how much clean up and re-branding that company does. Also, don't forget Johnny's Entertainment was engaged in severe media restrictions, and a lack of transparency when Johnny Kitagawa was alive and people in Japan and observers are tying the heavy media restriction to the sex abuse scandals. The scandals, you can't wash it off permanently, so they may not be affected for now, but we don't know what could happened to both of them in the near future. As I said, we have to wait and see but the "stain" is still there, and you can't wipe it off no matter what. That cloud is still shrouded over them no matter if they're not directly involved in the scandal. |

So I've followed KAT-TUN ever since they made their debut and I'd definitely say that it was long overdue. I wouldn't say it started with Johnny's sexual abuse and Fuji TV scandal because their creative output has been not the same ever since Jin Akanishi left and his attempt to break into the US music industry (the first and second time). Their songs were fairly distributed with a lot of rap and beatboxing, and at that time, Jin could do beatboxing, did most of the solos, and can also sing in English. With him gone, everyone else had to pick up 'his spot' per se, making Ueda learn how to beatbox. Of course, their songs went downhill since another beatboxer (their main beatboxer) was convicted and left (Koki). Their best dancer was also forced to leave due to a scandal (Junnosuke). |

I see, and that makes sense. I wanted to make sure the Johnny's sex abuse scandal along with the Masahiro Nakai's sex assault scandal that played a role in the Fuji TV scandal didn't played any role for the disbandment of KAT-TUN. But yes, whatever you said, that is also possible along with the departure of Koki, and Junnosuke in 2013, and 2016. So you do make a good point.
Yeah, about that. I don't want to discuss this publicly on this forum thread (the last time I did something like that, that got my post deleted on there), do you mind if I discuss this with you on the PM/private message? |
