A few manga publishers are now beginning to sometimes use the 979 prefix instead of 978. This has presented a few issues from what I've noticed. Here's the releases so far in the encyclopedia containing the prefix that I know of.

release#46964
release#46450
release#46915

Releases containing the 979 prefix have to be manually added by an encyclopedia editor such as myself every single time, and only Barnes & Noble links will ever find the ISBN when attempting to add through the wizard (before telling you that ISBN isn't recognized and to report it in the forums). The system is also not breaking down the ISBN to show the company prefix and product ID like it does with other releases when you hover your mouse showing what each section of the ISBN means. The system will need to be tweaked to properly recognize these releases so they can be added by regular users through the wizard in the future, instead of manually by an encyclopedia editor every single time.

Bumping this to note that Yen Press is also now using the 979 prefix in addition to Kodansha USA and Seven Seas Entertainment. This issue really needs to be addressed as it looks like soon everyone will be on the 979 prefix, meaning all books can only be added manually, which isn't ideal given how there's around 1,000+ print manga releases per year (Ex: 2023 currently has 1,283 print manga releases in the database, this doesn't also include eBooks or novels).

I've updated the wizard so that "979" will be recognized for ISBNs, but I think after that it will still tell you that ISBN isn't recognized and to report it in the forums. That will need a bit more work.

I didn't add anything through the wizard itself yet starting with 979, but checking for newly added releases (so I can add the info the scraper isn't adding right away + the cover image), I see it's working for regular users as the main person adding manga this year added something (they've added a few thousand releases this year).
release#50379

Unrelated but nice to see these are large capacity ISBNs in the breakdown (1,000-10,000), meaning adding unrecognized prefixes manually will have to be done less often again. Multiple publishers were using 100 capacity ISBNs which was annoying given how quickly they burn through those. I don't follow manga too closely, so I wouldn't have a clue as to when a new prefix not in the system popped up.

Thank you very much for adjusting things to work with the 979 prefix.
